  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Salty sweet...

Jarred loaned us a prototype Red Nikon mount which worked great and has the same tensioning ring that the EF mount has. Nice guy, nice Piece of gear.

It would be nice to hear something about the Nikon mount's performance in the final writeup as well.

Early Prototype.... Iris worked great every lens every time all the time no hiccups, with f-stop display on LCD. We did not test AF or remote electronic focus - was it even enabled ?

Based on what we saw yesterday I would expect that the final Nikon mount will be equal in function to the Canon one.

I'd like to say thanks to Evin Grant, Matt Duclos, Matt Uhry, Luis Flores, and the team over at Duclos for having me out and helping out with everything. It was a fascinating experience with some very interesting results. Some surprising, some not very surprising at all.

I was mostly a pair of hands, "flare boy", detail checker, and an extra pair of eyes for the tests.

Can't wait to see the imagery. I've been digesting the results all night.

The Prototype Nikon mount performed wonderfully, again they nailed the design when it comes to the mounts. I have to have one of these.

This is a TERRIBLE picture of the mount so please excuse the picture because my pic SUCKS, but you can be assure its very nicely done and when the Nikon lenses were put onto it worked like a charm.

Thank you guys for coming out and Thanks to Duclos, Jarred, Red, Optitek and Lensrentals.com for helping make this test happen.
Now I just have to process and post all this info...
:emote_head_explode:

The Red Nikon mount simply works, it's solid, the apertures change smooth as butter, I did ask for the AF to be disabled since I knew I was going to critically focus each shot by eye. However I expect the final production mounts to be everything we've been promised, there sould be no functional difference between shooting Nikon G Vs. Canon EF.

Can't wait to see this, not buying any glass until the results are out.

The only thing I can hope for on top of all that is that it will come in Titanium)

Evin, can you estimate when all the results and the final writeup will "come out of backorder"? :biggrin5:

I designed this test to be much more manageable than the first SALT so hopefully within a week or so.
I'll post a few pieces in the next few days, it's really the footage and stills processing that's going to take the most time.
Anyone want to donate a server?

What?? No Leica M??

Just kidding, they would be an unfair competition to the rest of the Still glass, including their R sis... ;)

Look forward to see your findings guys, and thanks in behalf of the community for taking the time, again and do this, I wish I had the patient to do this kind of stuff,
but I don't, I however have some sweet stuff coming for the community too... ;)

PS: Evin, we know you love Nikon, so don't be BIAS... ;)
