  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rumors that Apple will drop H.264 for wavelet based codec and will support 4K

Hummm..... well advanced

Bring on the Apple 4K cinema displays!!!!

...just don't put the antenna on the outside. :willy_nilly:

Honestly, I just don't believe this. Apple clearly doesn't have much of an interest in the Pro market anymore, and H.264 has been their flagship codec since iPods could play video. They'd be silly to just dump it. I don't know, I hope that Apple will do something to restore my faith in them, but it's looking more unlikely every day.

Wavelet compression does offer them a great deal of advantages though. h624 looks nice, but has a ton of problems with it too. it's getting out dated, and there are so many better methods. The demand for higher quality is ever increasing, and more compression/less processing power with equal or better quality will be needed too.

As for going by business, what makes more sense than apple putting something new out, and forcing it to be the standard so you have to buy nothing but the latest and greatest apple products to support it?

As we can see how Cineform and REDCODE being very efficient, we just wonder why others don't adopt it.

What part of that post had anything to do with the Pro market? It's for distribution to consumers.

It's another bogus rumor article. Like most, I'd bet it's a total crock!

The odds are in that favor but a RED/Apple partnership on something like this would be absolutely brilliant. The 4k REDRAY delivery codec that Graeme is working on is nothing short of magic. 4K Apple TV would really set it apart from the competition. You get Apple and Google onboard for something like that and you have near instant adoption overnight. It's sure as hell not going to be traditional media companies pushing 4K to the home. How long did it take to get decent HD content into homes? Oh yea, FOREVER.

RED has had a much broader plan for 4K in the home since the very beginning. The REDRAY consumer device seems to have been pushed to the back burner. Perhaps because it will show up in another form from another company.

RED-RAY REDCODE Codec!!!!

I say Sanjin called it. :yesnod:

Something is going on with RED-RAY. We've heard very little about it and it sounded like it was close to delivery a year + ago.

Licence deal with Apple perhaps?
REDCODE from acquisition to edit to delivery, maybe the GooG is in on it too?
