  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rokinon Cine lenses are here!!

Will there ever be a PL version of these lenses?

I would say not. Anything can happen but I suspect it would increase price and def weight. Pick you up an EOS or nikon mount for your cam and then these lenses are versitle to mount on multiple cam systems and not just RED. I can't tell you the last time I put the PL mount back on my camera.

"We will definitely consider it for the future" is nice for them to say but I think it means bollocks. Rokinon is a distributor of the lenses, and even though they do sell a lot of Samyang made lenses, I don't think they have the bargaining power to convince Samyang to change their manufacturing process and release them in PL mount. Samyang makes optics for the consumer, it'd be a hassle for them to retool and create PL lenses for a very small amount of their sales.

I would absolutely LOVE it if they made PL lenses as it would truly make Zeiss and Canon run for their money and introduce some cheaper players into the PL playing field but I'm very doubtful it would actually happen. We just don't make a big enough contingent or have the purchasing potential to buy PL lenses from them at a decent price.

Selling my New/Never Used but don't have original box, 24mm Rokinon Cine Lens. Bought it and never used it, only opened to inspect. It is in Canon mount.

Asking $650 OBO and ships anywhere in the US. Retails for $750 plus tax and shipping. I'm located in Long Beach if you want to pick it up in person.

Will post pictures soon. PM me or email me (email below in my signature).

+1 for metal housing, no breathing, accurate marks, 80mm front, better mechanics! they made a sony emount version and that standard is basically DOA for the most part, PL has to sell better!

I am seriously considering buying these if I can't save up for CP2's or RPP

going back to what was said earlier, do the CP2's really breathe bad? Cuz if the RPP doesn't breathe, focuses closer, and weighs a ton more, I still think I might get some RPP over the CP2's. I am having a tough time committing to a brand until I get some cash though, and save for Dragon

is the contact info of the manufacturer, i already emailed them the requests, but im sure if others do that will help

What's the final verdict on these? Inconsistent at best, but good for the price? I'm pricing lenses for our BTR1 right now, and since we shoot stills with a D800 I'll be buying Nikon mount something or other. Want to keep it simple. Thinking about the 17-55 f/2.8 for a go to lens to start off. It's DX so it won't be great on the D800, but should be good on the R1.

The Nikon 17-55 is a great lens. Very sharp. That and the Rokinon 85mm would be a good starter kit.

IMO, the Rokinon Cine primes are exactly what you get for the money. They are the trainers, disposable, introduction, stunt double, basic lenses. They're going to produce nice images with decent optics and nice fast apertures, but that's about it. Their manual control is excellent as a learning tool or for setups that don't require precision. They aren't great lenses, but for the money, you can't compare them to much else. Basically, I would prefer a Rokinon 35mm T1.5 over a Canon L series for motion picture work, strictly for the manual controls and cine-style setup. Horses for courses

+1 and Agreed

I just finished the first "proper" job with my Samyangs. It was the perfect oppertunity, small crew, corporate video, location work with minimal lighting possibilities. Just a few lights for key and fill. I haven't seem the finished cut, but I've heard no complaints from the post guys at least.
They were great for this job, a bit of a hassle to have to readjust the follow focus and matte box with each lens change. Focus throw a bit short, but all in all I won't hessitate to use them again

Bit of relevant UK/EU spamming but just a heads up. I have a Samyang 35mm f1.4 'video' (the pre full cine versions VDSLR version) declicked aperture lens in London for sale in the 'Jobs / Equipment for hire' sub forum at the moment.

Whats your take on the 24mm Cine version?

I want to complete my set of 35mm and 85mm Cine lenses.

Unless a 50mm comes my way of course ;)

Okay, I just did the first test shoot on the streets of Modena during a car event, the Frame grabs will be uploaded shortly, starting form here:

got the 85 and 35 cine versions....85 is amazing, might be the best performance of any lens wide open I have seen....crazy good.....the 35 is fine....a little funky at 1.5 but solid from 2.8 on....seems to be pretty long for a 35? More like a 40?....so much so that I almost don't miss the 50 in between.....thinking about the 24 now as well.....so far the lenses I have are better in every regard then comparible canon L ...it surprises me how obvious....
especially the 85....for 320$......the lens would be worth it for 6x the price.....

How's the breathing of the 35mm for you?

And to be honest too, even so coming form the best glass in the world, Master Primes, which are of course incredibly well controlled with no visible breathing at any focal, I never really cared to see if a lens has breathing or not, no one else out there, other then the few of us, see it, so why really worry about it??

I know I don't, I had some fun today with the 24mm first, and most of the day with the 35mm, forgot I had the 85m in my back pack with the 10x Diopter, so I guess I'll try that next time.

Any ways, as I said above, I'll post few frame grabs on my Epic Onwer's tread linked above, but this are very short takes of few seconds (literally) just to test the lenses and get some frames, all shot at 23.98 no HDRx no HFR to better pull frames form, if they do okay this way, they will do great when I put my time and set the camera to the best settings.

Quick grab from a recent short on the Rokinon 35mm 1.5
