I need a super wide angle/ fisheye, and i want to know if the rokinon 8mm cine with the removable lens hood will cover the mx sensor without vignetting?
If anyone has sample frame grabs, i'd love to see them :)

Im open to other nikon mount lens segestions too

Depending on whether it is 4K or 5K, the Peleng 8mm f3.5 Fisheye for Nikon might do it for you. On a 35mm stills camera full frame sensor the image will be portholed. On a 7D it may be full or only slightly vignetted in the corners. I have a Peleng up here in Roley with a Nikon mount plus a few other Nikon F-Mount wides if you want to see what they look like. I assume you are asking about RED cameras. The Rokinon lens controls are more intuitively arranged than the Peleng which can be confusing.

On my Scarlet I know it covered 4k and 5k with the Rokinon, but I didn't have the front attachment on. I think if you buy the one without the removable front it will vignette, not because the lens does, but because the lens shade does...

I have the "Rokinon RK8MV-C 8mm T3.8 Cine Fisheye Lens for Canon Video DSLR with Declicked Aperture".

4K is pretty much covered.

Yeh ive seen before that the lens hood gets in shot with any sensor bigger than a 7d's.. the hoodless model will have to be the go i think

Thanks neil for the sample pics :)

The Peleng was covering an approx. 24mm wide frame on a home-made AGUS35 adaptor but this is muchly a guess. This clip was shot with the Peleng on an AGUS35 with the optical centre purposely repositioned to enable a more natural-looking lower-third of frame, one of the advantages of do-it-yourself projects. If there is vignetting with 4K I would have expected to see it on the top left and right corners of the image. There is brightness falloff at left of frame. This was due to a limitation in the 35mm adaptor design, not the lens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx-GTXQLF6A
