  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet-M (fixed) - Would you buy?

What will the final "Ready to shoot out of the box" package consist of? Also what will be the final price for the package?
•Scarlet-M Brain with fixed lens
•5" Touchscreen LCD
•DSMC Side Handle
•REDmote
•1x REDVolt batteries and travel charger

As for the extras, I believe that only things I will need right away would be the following:
•3x REDVolt batteries
•4x 32GB CF cards
•Red Station CF Module
•Custom laser-cut foam Scarlet Pelican 1510 case
•2 years of warranty coverage

Those are impossible questions to answer, unfortunately. It was said that a package would be available "Ready to Shoot", but most of the noise on this issue has been from forum members, not official word from RED. Absolute specifics of will be included - if at all - is unknown. In that way, I don't want to mislead anyone with my earlier post.

Where the idea of a "package" comes from is the old price list mentioned:
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?38274-November-30th....
This states it will come with: brains/lens, CF module, REDmote, 2.8 touchscreen, redvolt battery and travel charger.

As far as I know, this package hasn't been nixed, just updated - 5" screen instead of 2.8", SSD module instead of CF, price increase for HDRx.

Maybe they could sell a "build it yourself" Scarlet kit, with parts and instructions. That would be hilarious, however unlikely...

I could imagine someone accidentally dropping the sensor, picking it up with bare hands, blowing the cat hair off of it, and going right back to putting it together...

... and hopefully making a video of that to put it on youtube for us. ;)

Let's hope this kind of stuff only happens in fancy restaurants. Not at the RED factory!

I seriously doubt a Scrlet-M, wouldn't make sense, especially at $20k. If you got that much money to waste on getting the Scarlet that much faster than everyone else, you might as well team up with two other crazy people and order a Epic-M.

As for when it comes out, I'm expecting two options - package (ready to shoot) and Brain Only.

The accessories and modules being asked for with the F-Scarlet currently cost $9,310 ($10,660 when the price goes up on January 1st).

Did someone really propose a Scarlet-M package to mean that RED would pay individuals $2,310 for the reception of a limited-edition Scarlet?

I'm trying very hard to be nice here...

Without thinking "package", how much are you guys valuing the Scarlet body? How much do you value the opportunity to work with a Scarlet during a period of time when not all features are made available and not everything works perfectly?

How much do you value being the first small group to work with the most elusive camera in recent history?

Food for thought...

The EPIC-M Package is not sold for less because it has many more pieces than a brain. You are only required to buy every piece if you want to opt in.

What proposed "package" exactly are you referring to? I'm just curious of the contents connected to that amount... :)

I think if RED asked who wanted my proposed package at the $10k the other guy suggested..... at least 10,000 arms would go up in unison.

Most certainly - possibly far more then that I'd easily imagine. But raising your arms isn't gonna generate some kind of fantastic miracle :)

Look, I think a lot of people aren't really facing the reality of things. Since the Scarlet cameras were originally announced, a lot of things have changed radically since then (with the camera and the world) - and eventually the final price of the camera will reflect that. As have been previously pointed out, more than several times in discussions like these, is that RED is a company - not a charity.

As affordable as these cameras are - and WILL BE almost certainly, they ARE professional motion picture cameras. Think about what you are getting and you'll realize that these cameras are very affordable - regardless if it'll be 2K, 3K or 4K more of what you'd perhaps expect it to be :)

To get the relation you just have to look around what others are selling and what they do charge for their stuff. ;)
Whatever the price will be, RED's offering will be a huge gift and for lots of us the first affordable real professional movie-camera. It will start another revolution, without doubt.

That's a cool little $100 Million in orders, if 10,000 people were really that interested it's a worthy option. I am sure RED would find that hard to turn down, but I suspect the hassle of establishing the SCARLET-M manufacturing line and dealing with that level of inventory and parts would be a tad bit more complicated than the EPIC-M program, and maybe not really worth it.

We can all dream though, but we're almost there. Probably looking at an Oct 1st deadline for SCARLET-F. I'm ready!

KO

Well... whether it is Scarlet "M" or not (it wont be).... They are soon gonna have to have that sort of production line running (in fact, much, much crazier... considering accessories for Epic-X). My biggest fear is with the accesories.... Even Epic-M is missing EVF and side handle.

Oct 1st sounds nice to me though!

I can't wait for the Scarlet. I've got the money sitting here ready to go. But I really don't think we'll see it in 2011. I think that it's pretty fair to say that it'll be 2012. I mean, look how long the EPIC-M has been going on for. I really want it more than words can describe, but for now I'm all good. Nothing else tickles my fancy, so I'll stick with what I've got.

But fuck yeah, I'm ready to fire up that tiny bomb and start rolling for sure!

would any of you jump at the chance, and what prices would you look to pay to get a hand machined kit (similar, but perhaps lower spec'd than the Epic-M kit) and be ahead of the game?
I would buy two for whatever they sell em, I need servo zoom, so I'm waiting for fixed,
