Hi all,

This may have been covered somewhere, but my searches failed to reveal anything. Apologies if I treading already trodden ground:

So, when I plug my right angle EVF/LCD cable in to the DSMC2 LEMO Adaptor on the side, it sticks out in an unfortunate way (pictured below). Has anyone found a solution to this problem other than one that sticks straight up in the air (only slightly better)? I took apart the Lemo Adaptor in hopes that I could just turn the Lemo 90 or 180, but the ribbon doesn't have room to turn.

Thanks!
Frazer

Ouch! Not too sure how else you can get by it aside from using the top pogo ports. I would recommend using the Wooden Camera Easy Top as it has adjustable LCD/EVF ports.

It completely undermines all the ergonomic benefits of the weapon.

Sad.

I think you have to use the the forward facing Lemo on the dumb side of the camera. Not much better. But it is better.

also WC is going to have pogo to lemo, pogo to pogo cables after nab.

Yeah don't try and make something work with the wrong parts, the WC top plate is genius

It seems like something RED should have caught before shipping all of these out, though. Owners shouldn't have to pay an additional $599 for a third-party top plate that resolves an issue with RED's product that was announced April 2015.

Someone even called it out last year on the announcement thread.

I'm also a bit bothered that the lemo adaptor can only face one way because of how the pins' case is shaped. How does a modular camera not have wholly modular accessories?

Alas, I was hoping you guys were going to save me :-)

Well, I could spend $600 more dollars on something I don't actually want and I find kinda ugly (Wooden Camera top plate), but since I'm an amateur machinist, I'm going to take apart the RED product and re-house it.

It does seem that the current housing could be drilled out on the side and re-routed outward to send the right angle down, but then it's annoyingly (though not functionally) in the way of the SSD slot.

Yea, RED does so many things right (the vast majority of them), but sometimes they get it very wrong, and I always wonder, how can one build one of the most evolved motion picture cameras in the world (arguable the best, but I don't care to argue about that, one way or another) and miss the obvious on something this simple? (And then I remember Canon who are mostly incapable of doing anything right other than making a nice looking image...)

Thanks,
Frazer

Yeah, that was rude poke in the eye! Mine is straight up for now, but since WC top plate has rotatable ports maybe there's a way to rehouse the port in Lemo Adapter A 90 degrees one way or another so cable points forward or back....

Edit: just saw that you already tried that but ribbon not long enough. Is there a way to re-key the orientation of cable's Lemo connector (cable between adaptor and EVF/LCD)?

In reality we need a new connector type with mini slip-ring to replace those lemos... Then end user can rotate and lock in position at will :)

I like using angled lemos when possible for low profile and the angle orientation on lemo A adaptor got me puzzled both when mounted on front or side... Having a 180 or 90 cw version instead would be most useful...

Had my machinist make a shroud for the WC pogo to lemo cable. Works great until someone solves this problem directly.
The WC top plate is great. But honestly having both Lemos on the dumb side is not ideal. If there was a RED adapter with the lemo facing forward most of us would be happy. I think its because they wanted one adapter that would work on the top or the side. It just resulted in one that's not really good for either.

Requiring a top plate from WC is such a huge miss here. I like WC but I don't want to have to buy their top plates to use the EVF. And then a battery plate from ET to power the camera. This all becomes a big mess when we need to sub-rent equipment for larger projects and everyone has chosen different base configurations... Its this sort of thing that drives ACs bonkers and makes them long (and loudly complain) for an Alexa. To be fair, Arri has manufactured the same sorts of problems with its Mini. Their EVF cable is an even bigger miss and their incredibly poor placement of the Cfast card slot (where their battery plate covers it!!).

These are extremely inelegant solutions for such an otherwise high end cameras.

We're really crossing our fingers that RED can create a Lemo adapter that positions a Lemo port going straight forward from the operator side and also a Lemo adapter that's exactly the reverse of the current one.

They are getting so close(!!!!)

Stupid question of the week-end:

Is it possible to build a Lemo cable with the angle going the other way?

This starts to be an issue in the surf water housing World as it will make the housing bulkier just because of this adapter/cable combo.

People are already ordering the WC Top Plate or thinking about the Pogo adapt but I'd really like to avoid going that way...

Anyone at red could chime in with an option?

Having the same issue mounting the new EVF on the Wooden Camera EVF mount. The Cable faces straight down into the bracket :( Would love an EVF cable that had the red dot on the side! Is this not a thing??

I've found that if i place the new evf undemounted and slid left on the WC L bracket it works great and the cable doesn't get in the way of any position
