Had several RED cameras and of course there is a lot to like. One draw back is no internal ND or any way to get filters behind the lens. Since so much ND is needed to shoot exteriors (and also some interiors), if the photographer wants to add a diffusion filter or grad filter or any other filtration.... undesirable, double filter reflections in the highlights often occur. Or an overall softness with long lenses occurs. (stacking filters on a long, telephoto lens is not a recipe for sharp images in my opinion)
I haven't used the Red motion mount...but a director I trust very much has relayed experiences of too much color shift (when increasing ND levels) to make the Motion mount an effective solution.
Was really excited to see the "Revolva" offered by the Kipper Tie company.
Has anyone had experience using this? Is it optically good? Are there any optical drawbacks? Any vignetting or touching rear elements of lenses? Does it get in the way if you want to mount a viewfinder bracket for rods right on top/ front of camera. Yes, I've read the FAQ's on the site, but I think personal, user experience would carry more insight.
I would buy a Revolva today...but it is not returnable and have been burned by 3rd party accessories (non-returnable) that I've purchases site-unseen.
If anyone has any personal experience with the Revolva, I'd really like to hear about it...or if Kipper Tie ever offers a return or small re-stocking fee...I'd buy one TODAY.
Would pay to rent a loaner if reasonable (with insurance certificate, paid shipping and deposit) to demo the model before purchase if anyone has access to a Revolva unit. Kipper Tie? Can you help?
(Thank you John M. for returning my correspondence earlier this month)
Thank you!
