Had several RED cameras and of course there is a lot to like. One draw back is no internal ND or any way to get filters behind the lens. Since so much ND is needed to shoot exteriors (and also some interiors), if the photographer wants to add a diffusion filter or grad filter or any other filtration.... undesirable, double filter reflections in the highlights often occur. Or an overall softness with long lenses occurs. (stacking filters on a long, telephoto lens is not a recipe for sharp images in my opinion)

I haven't used the Red motion mount...but a director I trust very much has relayed experiences of too much color shift (when increasing ND levels) to make the Motion mount an effective solution.

Was really excited to see the "Revolva" offered by the Kipper Tie company.

Has anyone had experience using this? Is it optically good? Are there any optical drawbacks? Any vignetting or touching rear elements of lenses? Does it get in the way if you want to mount a viewfinder bracket for rods right on top/ front of camera. Yes, I've read the FAQ's on the site, but I think personal, user experience would carry more insight.

I would buy a Revolva today...but it is not returnable and have been burned by 3rd party accessories (non-returnable) that I've purchases site-unseen.

If anyone has any personal experience with the Revolva, I'd really like to hear about it...or if Kipper Tie ever offers a return or small re-stocking fee...I'd buy one TODAY.

Would pay to rent a loaner if reasonable (with insurance certificate, paid shipping and deposit) to demo the model before purchase if anyone has access to a Revolva unit. Kipper Tie? Can you help?

(Thank you John M. for returning my correspondence earlier this month)

Thank you!

Mike,

I understand Kippertie will start delivery in the coming weeks of the PL versions. I too have many questions but we might have to be patient for just a little longer.

I have the PL version (I use it on my MONSTRO's), LOVE IT!!
Great build quality & does what it says on the can :)
I haven't found any drawbacks yet

In dusty environments (arm car kinda stuff too) I tape seal it up to ensure no dust or grit get's in there...it's not a wide open gap, it's light tight but just kinda makes me feel more comfortable using tape to double seal it up.

I haven't found a PL lens it doesn't fit that I own so all good there...I believe some of the RED PRO ZOOM's have large rears & one of those has an issue but we're talking pre HELIUM sensor coverage there so not an issue for me.

A nice touch is in the box in the form of an old school female lens tool (forget the correct name / term for them) , that is the exact shape of the REVOLVA so trying each lens on this first ensures the rear element & your REVOLVA fit without contact, haven't seen one of these since my high speed days as an AC high Speed Tech.

Only one issue I've found:
It doesn't fit the camera when fitted with the TILTA ESR T01 C top cheese plate as this cheese plate extends out the front about 1/2" & fouls the top of the REVOLVA.

I'm London UK based & after this shoot here in China I will be away on holiday ahhhh! so you have from 7/3 to 7/21 to play with it if you like? Always happy to share.

Let me know if this would work for you too.

Stuart, do you have one Revolva and two Monstro's. I have two and want to buy only one and be able to switch it back and forth depending on a particular job. I see there's a OLPF adhesive strip which needs to be dealt with, will this prevent the free switching I'm look to do?

The light baffle in the VV OLPF's? I ripped all mine out months ago so I'm not sure if they'd foul or not with the REVOLVA. This is a question for KIPPERTIE, sorry. I use a lot of NIKON stills lenses on a F mount so I removed them then.

Removing them super carefully still kinda bends them out of shape so re-attaching them would be very difficult & super slow too. I think they were installed during the OLPF assembly process so an uninstall is permanent IMO.

Good to know....So far I haven't been able to get Kippertie to respond to an email or here on the forum.

Stu Graham,

Thanks for the color on the Revolva! Great info. Especially about taping it up in dusty environments. Thank you for the offer of checking it out too! That's really nice of you. Let me know if you're in the States and its easy, but I think from what you told me it will fit my rear elements. I have an old Ang. HR 25-250, I was worried about, but I don't think the back is very long. Thanks again for the great info!

You have a Monstro-compatible F Mount?
