  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Review: Excellent ProRes Option for Epic/Scarlet, Hyper Decklink Shuttle 2

As John said, you could use a simple batch rename utility - align based on date captured or even name order, rename the Hyperdeck material to match the R3Ds - voila

I ended up paying a lot for the Switronix D-tap with voltage regulator because a friend of mine has claimed has fried several SSDs and doesn't know why exactly but he uses a simple D-tap cable. Most plates list their Dtaps as unregulated

So, in the past a certain camera company that will go unnamed made a d-tap that was ill-fitting. It allowed a d-tap to be inserted backwards thereby reversing the polarization of the voltage. Obviously it cause significant damage to various accessories that were powered from that said d-tap.

Hi there, been following this thread with great interest, thanks for the review Timur.
Haven't been able to figure out if the Hyperdeck is able to record signals larger then 1K/2K? I mean if the Scarlet/Epic is shooting at 4K/24p and the Hyperdeck is connect to the SDI tap, what will be recored on it? If you could point me in the right direction that would be great

No, it will record the scaled down HDTV signal from the SDI output, i.e. you can shoot full sensor, but the recording will not be the same resolution.

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the SDI out settings so that pans can be recorded in a smoother way? I find that if my camera is set to 25fps and shutter at 1/50 with SDI out set at 25Hz, that the final recorded ProRes pan is far from smooth. Can anyone advise on this? Thanks

Antonio

There is no difference between the SDI out and the RAW recording. You have to pan slower. Or go Hobbit style at 48FPS!

Hey Bob,

Thanks for your reply. I know what you're saying. The trouble is with handheld work I was already trying to pan relatively slower than I would normally do on a tripod. With other cameras when you reduce the shutter speed to 1/25 at 25fps, you get more of a motion blur effect. Do you thing that might work?

A slower shutter will definitely help, but it's a different look.

Looks like BMD released firmware 3.7 for the HyperDeck. I was hopeful that it would include R3D file naming, but at least according the release notes it does not. If anyone has a chance to check it out first let us all know if that feature secretly sneaked in.
Thanks!

You just need a smart file renamer that can first read a list from the finder of the RAW files.

Any ideas to batch rename the Shuttle-2 file names to the r3d file names? Is it possible?
Many thanks!
Vlad

The easiest way I've found is to acquire a list of file names. Then you can import that txt list into ABFR and rename the specified files in the same order as your R3d Raw.

Found this process in MacRumors:

1) Open TextEdit (or, I assume, any text application).

2) Navigate to the folder in question with your Finder.

3) Select a file within said folder and press command A to select all.

4) Press command C to copy.

5) Return to TextEdit and hold down command, option, and shift, and then hit V to paste and match style.

I found one such program - http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/ . Now trying to understand how to organize the work process. Many thanks!
