  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Retailers first in line

Don't believe Image One.

It looks like they have not placed any pre-orders and are very deluded about getting preferential shipping from Red.

Funny you should say that, With my late pre-order of 2/6/16 2 different RED reps at NAB suggested I talk to Image One as they can most likely get me a camera sooner if I move my order from RED.com to them.
When the Bomb squad advises, I listen.

The general concept as I undestand it is that RED pre-orders for Raven are handled in the order (approximately) that they were made based on timestamp. Whether that is an individual, company, or a reseller that's the order of operations. In some circumstances some retailers then would get their camera before certain pre-orders. To note though, at this point, RED pre-orders are going out. It's more of a matter of the black gloved RED folks to build and QC these birds and then push them out of the nest.

Hard to tell what, who, when, and how many were actually ordered. If it was me and if I ordered early on, i'd stay in the RED queue. If you ordered yesterday however.....

I switched my S-W preorder to Image One and almost instantly regretted it. I've asked them to confirm if they had preorders already in before my timestamp (2/29) and they hemmed and hawed and wouldn't give me a straight answer. Now trying to see if Red will give me my old timestamp back as Image One completely misled me, but not particularly hopeful of that happening.

From what I can glean, they're working on the assumption that they can pre-order today and be allocated before individuals who pre-ordered months ago, simply because they're a reseller.

From everything I've seen from the horse's mouth on here, that's simply not true.

Fair enough Tom. I'll keep you in the loop regarding my RAVEN order with Image One.

Hey, Karl have they told you about when they expect your camera to get it? I ordered through Omega Broadcast and they are saying early May for Raven.

The guy at Image One said it would be a matter of weeks before I get my Raven I/O Package. So, hopefully by the end of May.

I was also referred to Image One by a Bomb Squad rep. I placed my order this month, though, so I don't doubt it was a good choice.

Thanks Brian, BUT HOW DO I KNOW YOU AREN'T JUST PULLING MY OTHER LEG?! I of course am kidding. I don't think anyone is maliciously trying to deceive anyone. But I put myself through college waiting tables and I'm sad to say that I've told multiple customers that their food was ALMOST done even though I knew DAMN well that I had totally forgot to even ORDER their food......part of me can't shake the feeling that karma is at it again.

Valid concern haha. I will try to speak for all of us, while not speaking for anyone at the same time... As for my place of employment, we aren't skipping anyone in line. RED has made it a point to all of you, and to us, that they will honor their customers order dates(rightfully so if you ask me!). But as resellers we do purchase quantity, so the hope is to receive more than 1 at a time. So technically we will be able to allocate at a quicker rate. That means that there will be a faster allocation process through most resellers, but none of us will be jumping ahead of the Raven or Scarlet-W early adopters that placed orders before us. With all that being said, I have no inside info within the RED world, so I can only speak on how we will handle it here at Abel. I hope that sheds a bit of light on the process from our end!

I just recently placed my order for a Scarlet-W through AbelCine, per my Bomb Squad rep's recommendation. I won't be getting my camera any quicker than someone who ordered their's a few months ago, but I will be skipping ahead of anyone who ordered through RED a week or so before me. That's assuming that there are still people placing orders directly through the RED website, which the reps are personally advising against. I'm pretty sure that the allocation queue is still preserved, and that the only people this will affect are those who haven't yet put down a deposit.

Oh, and the price through AbelCine was not a cent higher than ordering directly through RED.

I can confirm. Image One said the same to me.

Great speaking with you Garrett! I hope the sales team is treating you well.

Let us know if we can help you out any further with the Scarlet-W slowdown that Jarred posted about. My post about rental discounts for RED customers is below!
