  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Resolve 8.0.1 + Lion + Red Rocket + GTX285&GT120 Problems

Again I never plug anything into the GTX285, it was just a troubleshooting test for me to see if performance would change.

Also the configuration was changed:
It is now
Slot 1: GTX285
Slot 2: GT120
Slot 3: RR
Slot 4: Decklink 3D+

This was the configuration recommended by Dwaine Maggert of Davinci

This setup you are suggesting was my first setup which is slower than it is now. Yes the power cables are attached. I also know the RR is in the crippled slot but Dwayne told me it would not affect performance. I opened Redcine and was able to play back full res real time so I dont really see any difference. Obviously there is a difference since its only getting half its required bandwidth but this is what Dwayne said to setup my configuration as. Also I know there are other users with the same setup that are getting real time playback with multiple node corrections.

Luigi,
Pageable performance is:
Host to Device: 3227.49 Mib/s
Device to Host: 3266.76 Mib/s
Device to Device: 59.8441 GIB/s

David,
Im using an EVGA GTX285 with the latest drivers installed. Is there an older driver I should be running?

Matt,
cuda work ok, but you have installed evga driver above Lion?

What kind of storage array do you have? I had a lot of trouble with Lion and Sonnet eSata drivers. When I went back to 10.6.7 problems went away. I am also running the GTX285 and 120, on a 5,1 MacPro. However I don't have a Rocket.

I was getting similar fps to you - 9fps at 1/4 res debayer. So, it would seem to me that Resolve isn't using your RR card.

MAtt You have installed the latest drivers for EVGA GTX 285?
If you have installed the EVGA drivers can create many problems with Lion, do not install any Nvidia driver with Lion.
I hope you understand, given my bad English.

As related to Matt on the Creative Cow DaVinci forum, the GPU and GUI graphics cards MUST be in x16 slots (1 and 2), so the Red Rocket card must go in slot 3 or 4, if it's going inside the Mac chassis. And since those are x4 slots, and the Red Rocket is a x8 card, you won't get full performance from it, so you need to use half res Premium mode for real time playback. Full res Premium will not give you real time playback.

Dwaine is correct. Just spoke with Black Magic for my own edification.
GUI and GPU card must be in slots 1 and 2.
You can only use the RR in slot 3 at half res., otherwise it's not happy. Too slow a slot at 4x.

Your only other solution is to buy one of those overpriced break out boxes. If you do that, you might as well
add another GTX card for fun.

not sure if it is installed as this is a clone from my previous system restored to this one. Where can I delete these Nvidia Drivers?

Hi David,
Right now im just using FW800 to test.

I feel like it is not using the Rocket as performance isnt real time at full res which it should be.

Strange things happening with this mac's . I had big problem with my early 2008 2x quadro 4000 system. Now thanks to Luigi I have rock solid hackintosh, everything works and dvinci is very fast.

Think that if you have no problem with qt files with some correction like 4-6 nodes then it is not gpu performance

When I was in your situation I just installed fresh Osx on second drive and when problem was still there I knew that it was hardware

Hi, stop the bus...unless I misread the reports, there seems to be a more fundamental issue.
It looks to me like just the GT120 is being used if all you can get is 3fps.
Take out the rocket and GTX285. If you still get 3fps that suggests Resolve can not see the GTX GPU.
Solve that issue first. Then r3d speed without the rocket, in 1/4 res good should be close to real time.
Then put the rocket back in, as jake said, the rocket will always decode at premium debayer.
Set it at 1/2 res and your timeline to HD and you should get 8 nodes in real time.
The config guide on the BMD web site lists what configs need to be and there are lots of systems that work this way.

Matt, again, you are not going to get real time with Red Full Resolution Premium settings, if the Red Rocket is in the Mac, on a Resolve system.

Matt,
If you're unsure try reinstalling Lion.
Otherwise, as already mentioned by Engineer Dwaine, your speed in real time will be only half resolution. The problem of 3 slot at 4x cause this.
Redrocket work at 8x slot and full speed.

Luigi

I think it's time to upgrade to Windows platform at begin 2012 , to save money problems and have a lot more performance.
It's only my opinion.
