Hello,
I borrowed a friends Red Rocket card and Resolve dongle to color a project. My system is a Mac Pro 4,1 2x 2.26 Quad core with 12gb 1033 ram running OSX 10.7.1 Lion. I am running the latest version of Resolve 8.0.1 and my cuda driver and firmware as been updated and includes the beta Lion firmware.

My PCIE configuration is as follows:
Slot 1: GTX285 (GPU)
Slot 2: Red Rocket
Slot 3: GT120 (GUI)
Slot 4: Decklink Extreme 3D+

I am working on a project with strictly Red files. Conformed from a FCP XML relinked to the R3D's. With my timeline set to 1080p and 1/2 good resolution I am only getting between 1.5 to 3fps playback with no corrections just the Raw file playback. What is going on?

In Recine x i get full 4k playback in realtime at full resolution and yet I cant get Resolve to run at 1/2 good using the Cuda of the GTX285 and the Red Rocket. Its like the program is not reading either card. To Troubleshoot I plugged my ACD 30 into the GTX and playback was the same as when it was plugged into the GT120 GUI card. What is going on here? I was going to invest in Resolve software for myself but with performance like this theres no way. What could be the issue here? I am running the latest firmware and driver for the Red Rocket and my system reads all the cards correctly in the system profiler. Also even when I enable proxy playback my fps does not increase. I also have the FCS3 Red plugin installed and azll other necessary plugins. Im not going to put the rocket in slot 3 or 4 as that will completely cripple its full potential by dropping it down to a 4x pcie slot.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Matt
try to paste this to debug in preferences panel

LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 2
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0 1
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1

There is something wrong Davinci even without rocket is faster than 3fps half good

Ill give this a try. I know its faster because even my old 2,1 mac pro would get 23fps playback with no rocket installed. I dont get what is going on. Could the error be from cloning my old 2,1 system and restoring it on my new 4,1? I did a upgrade in osx from 10.6.8 on the old system to osx 10.7.1 on the new system.

Hi Matt.
Many people successfully run your configuration, so there is no reason to disparage Resolve.
I do not run RR, so I can't comment, but here are a few suggestions.
Please use the BM configuration guide. It is very helpful in situations, like yours. If you follow it to the letter, then I guaranty the system will perform as expected, unless there is a hardware or firmware fault.
Said that, first, when using RR, the debayer quality always full. I don't know, if with RR quality selector is even used.
Second, again not from personal experience and Rohit or Peter will correct me, if I'm wrong, but to my knowledge, proxies are used only with DPX. So, selecting proxies probably will not help.
And third, and that is the most important point. You GUI monitors should be plugged in ONLY into GT 120. No monitor should be plugged in into GTX 285. If you do that, your real time performance will suffer greatly.
Good luck.

So I did the debug and it brought up a warning that only the Gt120 would be used for image processing and for optimal performance a gtx285 or quadro 4000 should be used.

Hi Jake,
Thanks for the reply. As soon as I had a problem I followed the system configuration guide from Davinci to a T and still same performance. I never use the GTX285 to monitor that was just for a test to see what happens in Resolve and for my current config I didnt lose any performance. This is where I am confused.

When using RR you can select half rez premium. It helps with performance because davinci scaling from 2K to 1080 and not from 4K

I can't help but try to contact with guys from BM davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com They are very helpful

you can try to change PCI configuration maybe it will help I had in my old mac RR in slot 3 and it works OK

Dwayne Maggert posted on my creative cow Davinci thread that I should switch my GT120 and Red Rocket card. I am now going to try slot 1 GTX285, Slot 2 GT120, Slot 3 RR, Slot 4 Decklink 3D+.
Will report back

Doesnt seem to help but is giving me bad half frames on the playback. Distortion and waves in the top half.

I appreciate the help Luigi!

I also disable all nodes to test playback and set resolution to 1/2 res premium and I max out at 20fps and dip to 7fps sometimes.

Matt,
downlaod CUDA-z and open it, what is your PERFORMANCE in pegeable?

Luigi

It looks like you had the cards in the GPU and GUI slot incorrect. Also, as Jake said you cannot plug any device into your GTX card. It has to work
on it's own.
Scary Lion may have something to with that.
BTW - did you install the drivers into your cards correctly. Older drivers are required for your older (yet more powerful) GTX card,
but that could conceivably conflict with Lion.

Hey. Go here and follow the configuration guide precisely> Pretty sure you have the cards wrong:

Luigi,
Pageable performance is:
Host to Device: 3227.49 Mib/s
Device to Host: 3266.76 Mib/s
Device to Device: 59.8441 GIB/s

David,
Im using an EVGA GTX285 with the latest drivers installed. Is there an older driver I should be running?

Again I never plug anything into the GTX285, it was just a troubleshooting test for me to see if performance would change.
