  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey Thrill Seekers, Just got a GentWire 102 cable for remote start stop and other Red functions. But the tutorials show how to hook it up to a DX8 and I"ve got a DX9. The systems are different enough that I'm hesitant to risk frying something I don't want to buy again. Anyone hooked up those systems? Raven/Movi M5/Spektrum DX9/Spektrum AR7700 Share your thoughts.
 
So, is this better than Fool Control?
 
Well...Yes n No. right now it doesn't work at all, so no. It will theoreticaly allow me to control at least three camera functions, start/stop, ISO and Iris (with EF lenses of course). Fool control will allow you to control pretty much everything, but in my experience it's only good when it's within a few steps of the camera. After that it looses it's connection and from all my experience is reticent to regain that connection. The cable will allow you to do the three functions from your remote control. So the camera doesn't start to roll until you want it to. So for me, that cuts my media usage in half as much of my footage is taking off, getting in position for the take and landing.

But until i'm sure I know how it's supposed to be configured, I"m reluctant to risk the camera. Does that make me a bad person?

Sorry, didn't mean to come off as whatever I came off as... was genuinely curious how and why this may be better than Fool Control.
 
Andy, feel free to email me for any help troubleshooting your setup... not a wifi expert but there are stuff you can try to make it more reliable than what you describe.
 
Took no offense at all. IF I can get this to work, it will be much better than fool control for a few functions in that it's range will be as far away as your transmitter can control the gimbal. Certainly several hundred yards. Fool control has a connection distance, in my experience, of only a few yards. Much more than 12' and your out of range and it is sluggish at best in reconnecting.

I'm not trying to replace FoolControl. Even with my issues its MUCH better than carrying around a very expensive monitor just to see the menus. (I'm all aerial)
