Working a project & doing the coloring, the editing side created "common" named proxies and now we are trying to link these MP4's back to the source R3D files to export out an xml for Resolve via premiere. Can't seem to make premiere find the source files. The proxies were created in Premiere via AME.

Any easy help to relink these files would be great

Don't ever rename files, for this very reason. As far as I know, there's no way to relink them except shot by shot, all manually.

Let me say that again: don't ever rename files. Bad idea.

Were these files renamed in premiere or upon export of the proxies. If you rename a file within premiere it still holds the link to the original file name and can be batch linked. But if the proxies were renamed upon export, you are out of luck my friend.

Any possibility to relink using timecode? thats what would do in flame... dont know if premiere has such option, but that would be my guess.

I have a similar problem except that I'm attempting to replace my proxies with R3D files. The naming convention is the same with the exception of the file extension. The proxies are .mov but I want to replace them with the original R3D files for the final export. I have thousands of clips but the quesiton is, without relinking each clip manually, how do I tell Premiere Pro CC that XYZ.mov = XYZ.R3D for all the thousands of clips?

Again dont know how premiere deal with it but resolve has quite good conforming tools and I would asume that there you can atleast link by time code and if a few clips has the same timecode then then you can add file name and the .mov or .r3d should not matter. Again I dont use resolve much but I think thats how it´s done.

@bjorn thats what the director ended up doing - manually. I think the NEVER CHANGE FILE NAMES lesson was learned.

I think this is a lesson many of us have learned exactly this way. It's a lot less painful when it happens on a TVC. ;-)

MP4 and M4V often strip the meta data to save space and are usually not suitable for offline editing, since there are difficulties linking back to the original media, without also changing the name of the files.
