  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Released: Beta Firmware - Build 15

Is that support for anamorphic lens ratios I spy?

Now that is awesome.

"Anamorphic (1.2:1) recording modes for 2K, 3K, 4K"

is that 1.2:1 thing a typo or am I misunderstanding it?

R.

1.2:1 with a 2x anamorphic will give you 2.4:1 when unsqueezed. So no typo.

I went back to Build-14.. mainly because I'm in the middle of a shoot and noticed right away that there was stuttering and strobing going on the Red-LCD in the bottom 5th of the frame.. Anyone else noticing this? I didn't want to risk it, I'll play with it after I get home :red_bandana: :bye2:

The way I understand it, is the mode itself is 1.2 to 1. So when you shoot with 2:1 anamorphic glass and stretch in post, you get a frame that is 2.4:1. <edit> ooops, still had another page of posts to read, I see parisrem already posted this. :)

So, anyone taken that edge highlight focus thing for a spin yet?

4K REDCODE 36 to CF

4K REDCODE 36 to CF

I'll check on the REDCODE 36 issue in the morning guys.

Will it unsqueeze on the monitor? And does it cut the sides of the sensor.

Thanks

"Addition of root directory (.RDM) to digital media"

What does this do?

Will this allow us to record in multiple formats on the same media without formatting?

Hey guys, just posted a test clip over in Footage, http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10059

Here are my initial comments about Build 15:

-Edge code focus: awesome! But...very hard to see, can we get the thickness of the red parts up a bit? Like, double their current width?

-HD-SDI out seems to have lost the information of current file name and timecode. This was very useful last time I was on set.

-The EVF rocks my world! Good lord this is an awesome piece. What does the third push button do? The first two were false color and zoom in, the wheel is intensity. The last button seems to do nothing.

-No 4k 2:1 R36 to CF...boo! (thank you Stuart for taking note already)

-Now that we have 120fps, it's a pain to scroll from 24fps all the way up to 120fps and puts unnecessary use on the knob. Can you make it that pushing up on the knob goes to max and pushing down goes to min?

Thanks for the feedback Shawn. I agree with turning the knob.. its a bit of a chore now. At least it doesnt loose the number now when you power down :)

dont worry about the 4k 2:1 R36, its just a small bug that i'm sure will get squashed very soon.

I just recorded a 4K and a 3K file to the same card.....cool.

if you see weird stuff on the LCD, you probably havn't re-calibrated yet. Try that and see what happens. (next time you give it a go again)

Does the LCD mojo go away after a black shading? I only noticed it on one camera tonight... the one that we didn't re-shade.

The simultaneous outputs made my night. I miss the frame lines and TC overlays on the outputs [no frame lines on the outputs means that the "look around" area is indistinguishable from the recorded area on the HD-SDI], but I'm sure that's just an easy bug to fix. I'd love an "operator's mode" on the EVF that disables the menus... but I'd love a lot of things.

I don't have anything to ask for tonight. Build 15 rocks, thanks guys.

Yeah the re-cal should clean up the LCD.

Lots of new stuff in build 15.. so there will be a few more bugs than normal, but Im happy you guys at least can bang around on it.

shooting a toy commercial in palm springs tomorrow, arrived here just in time to load up 15 and test during the prep, director/dp jerry dugan is stoked!! we did some 113fps test pouring beer (i know i know) out of a bottle, looks unreal with just a flashlight lighting the stream.

putting 15 through the ringer tomorrow for real, i know it is a little nutty, but they said we were nutty putting down 1k two years ago, and look at us now!

15 makes me feel 16 all over again!

Maybe even better would be pushing up or down jumps up in increments of 10 or 20, and turning the knob is for fine adjustments. I think this should happen with manual white balance, and maybe other stuff too.

I also think pushing the white balance button should just jump from each preset, and then when you land on the manual white balance then you can use the knob (rotating for fine adjustment and pushing up and down for steps of 500 or 1000 or something). I don't think it makes sense to push the button to "enter" the white balance selection mode and then using the joystick to select each preset. It would be better/quicker to just press the white balance button a few times to jump to the one you want.

I also think that it would be sweet to be able to program not just buttons 1 and 2, but also buttons A, B, and C.
