Anyone feel my pain? Can we get a release date?

I am well aware of the RED WAY of doing things - secretive and no need to know etc. Similar to Apple. It would be a huge benefit to thousands of people though if we had some idea around a release date / month / year / century.

Smiling.

fall 2009, was the latest I heard...

I understand Red's perspective on not wanting to release anything with bugs. Remember the first few months the Red One was released? It was pretty tough some times.
From seeing the "focus" thread recently it seems like it works (at least the fixed scarlet) just wondering what's holding them up now. But then again how many other companies are so open to its customers like Red is. Can you imagine Arri being this open?
On the other hand, I wish that at first they never estimated a release date, it's starting to get frustrating. I was so excited for a fall 2009 release I started saving up. But its been so long & with no new news I've deciding to shoot my short on the epics & simply rent it, instead of buying & shooting it on the scarlets. Still seems like the Epics would be released first & I just want to start shooting already! Just hope that the Epic is out by next year so I could start shooting the film

I hear ya!
It would probably be better if RED never said anything until they had something to release. That's what Arri did... and in the end they're probably better off for it.

For What It's Worth ...

For What It's Worth ...

Someone who's kind of an "insider" in Hollywood just told me it would be released in November 2010. He has worked for a lot of the studios, Disney and other companies in the industry.

However, he's not even a "red owner" so it would seem stranger that he'd know something before any of the hard core red veterans on this board.

Anyway, take that date for what it's worth. If it's true -- then it means we're about 3 months away from the first Scarlet release. Plus or minus a couple of weeks. :thumbup1:

But like Philip Bloom recently said on his blog, it's hard to get fully excited about the Scarlet anymore until it actually ships.

One More Note ...

One More Note ...

This November 2010 release this guy was referring to was for the fixed 8x Scarlet. Not sure if the S35 or any other models will be available at the same time.

IF this rumored date even proves to be true.

I was bouncing off the walls excited waiting for that 09 release and was disappointed along with everyone else with the outcome of that promise. Just gotta ignore the idea of using it until I can actually click the buy button. Until then... Just keep using what's available. One day we'll all have one to play with

I always think it's funny how I always hear "Red should just release it already", but it's not like they aren't releasing these cameras just to eff with everyone (not directed at anyone in this thread I just hear it often). They are taking as long as they are because it's that difficult to create. Not to mention I am sure Red wants it released more than anyone, except they know and will make it perfect instead of "just releasing it".

If Red decided Scarlet should ship tomorrow, this is what you'd get...

So relax, they're doing their best.

I built my own computer... I'm pretty sure I can build my own Scarlet.

:biggrin5:

Hora de dormir no Brasil já ein! huauha

Yeah, who cares if not much more than record work, and the camera has massive potential but can't fulfil it yet - RED can just handle that for us in extremely expensive recalls and upgrades!

/ sarcasm

It'll be released when it's ready. Nothing more to say that that.

Oh, yeah, I totally remember RED making a promise to deliver my camera in 2009. Wait, actually I think that Jim might have said once or twice that they might not be able to make the date.

Oh, wait, what's that? It says that delivery dates are subject to change at the bottom of every single one of Jim's posts?

Wow, that doesn't actually sound like a promise at all.

Release dates are estimates of when the engineers think the product will be fully designed, debugged, tested and the manufacture ramped up. As with any engineering project, problems come up that take longer than expected to solve. Get over it.
