  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Release It Already

What a bunch of pathetic, lazy, whiners. If anyone here complaining in this thread actually took the time to read up on the subject, Jim specifically said that Scarlet has been delayed b/c one supplier went out of business due to the recession and the other is having issues unlike anything he's ever seen.

That's a euphemism for workers killing themselves b/c they are over worked, herded like cattle and grossly underpaid.

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20100818/D9HLUQ100.html

If anyone here complaining thinks their need for a camera that will probably best a Sony F23 for a small fraction of the price justifies what's going on, they are horribly selfish.

So wait for Scarlet or go buy an EX-1, 7D or used HVX. If you have a good movie that needs to be made now, great, go do it. And if your film is no good, the difference between 3K and 1.9K isn't going to make shit look any better, just sharper.

what he said.

I feel sure Red will announce an official release date when they know that they can meet it.
Until then there are alternatives.

peter, fair enough. i hadn't read or heard of that article. what a terrible story.

i'll hang tight and shut up.

all the best to everyone at RED,

Rarely is language ordered with such bewitching intensity and reason.

Epic and Scarlet don't exist.... it's all a scam to make advertising money from this website. They will keep delaying and improving specs so you keep clicking religiously every few hours (or more!)

*joke* ... but not a bad idea for a scam actually!

...yes, clicking each hour...

Just passed on my Gl2 to my son , will be wearing the heads off my dvx1000 while waiting for my scarlet . In the mean time I just got work on a feature coming to town and rumor is it will be shot on red. I am so excited to get my first look at this camera in real after a coule of years of reading about it. Life is good and i love waiting and learing , patience is a rare quality theses days.

RED want the EPIC and SCARLET released asap. Every day it will be costing them extra money in developmental costs, which need to be covered by the sale of the cameras. In the current climate they don't want costs to spiral out of control. If a lot of tweaking is now in the firmware rather than parts or design then expect a release at the end part of this year. RED temping us with little statements is now putting a lot on potential RED customers off as they switch to other camera companies. SONY are now doing interesting work, so expect PANASONIC & JVC to follow suit.

SONY's 3D camera, with single lens. http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/200910/09-117E/

RED must be aware of potential loss of business as customers spend their hard earned money elsewhere. Other companies are fast on RED's heals, but I'm still waiting for a SCARLET as a first time RED owner.... Just hope I'm not going to be still waiting this time in 2011. I'm keeping an open mind between RED, SONY & PANASONIC. For web videos I am still shooting in SD as its pointless to shoot HD for a SD or lower web compressed format. I like the high quality of RED images produced by the RED MX, just hope the 2/3" SCARLET produces as good as quality.

It's getting tiring hearing people who think it's ok to lead people on for 2 years...

Oh, I'll love the camera when it comes out but it's frustrating to see multiple release date promises come and go.

"Promises"?

Really? Care to point to a "promise"?

Nelson... You lost me there, that was quite unclear.

Nelson, there's a chance that even when Fixed Scarlet is available the R1 owners get priority (glad to be proved wrong).

...
Yeah - not sure I followed either. :bored:

And - I believe it has been stated that R1 owners who have otherwise "executed" their cameras (for Epic) will get no further preference when it comes to Scarlet.

Sorry about my English, I will try to be more pragmatic this time.

What I meant is: If you are going to wait for the newest developments in the industry just to release your camera with up-to-date specs, you will delay your camera launch forever!
That's no way you can keep up with all the new improvements made in the industry. Yesterday I was buying a XH-A1 and today she's obsolete! Everybody's raving about Alexa but she would become obsolete in a couple years too!

For better or worse, that's what digital age brought to us. I have a 16mm Bolex and many Super8 film cameras that continue to shoot. You would expect to buy a Bolex 30 years ago and keep a decent and up-to-date camera for decades in the celluloid era. That's not how things are done nowadays.

So wait for Scarlet or go buy an EX-1, 7D or used HVX. If you have a good movie that needs to be made now, great, go do it. And if your film is no good, the difference between 3K and 1.9K isn't going to make shit look any better, just sharper.

And for what is worth, I'm not winning on anything! I just made a clear statement about what I think of this situation. Sorry if it goes against some other users of this forum, but I'd though that forums were a free place to post our concerns, with respect and moderation....

If your film sucks, it's true that it will suck no matter what camera you use. But if you have a decent project you probably want to shoot it the best way you can. And I believe in my projects!

Red has the opposite problem. They are not trying to keep up, they are so far out on the bleeding edge that some elements of the industry, recording media for instance, have a way to go to catch up to the potential of these new cameras.
They are implementing design elements and features that have been requested by current and potential Red owners to meet a very broad spectrum of production requirements. Integrating all this into a very compact state of the art camera system is not an easy task.
They are taking the necessary time to get both hardware and software finished to the demanding standards of consistent performance and reliability that high level pros require if they are to trust their cameras under all kinds of conditions day in and day out. Nothing less will suffice. These are not intended to be the next great throw away consumer camera that is obsolete a year after you buy it.

Point taken David.
As I already said, reading trough this forum made me evaluate the Scarlet against the Panasonic AF100 for a number of reasons, and you have just pointed another one.
Anyway, and as I stated previously, for as much as I want to decide for the Scarlet I can't, unless she sees the light of day!

Seeing that there's a functioning prototype is somewhat of a light at the end of the tunnel though.

RED made alot of hype and noise about these cameras... and although they have the tag that everything is subject to change, est. launch dates have been announced and some people will take that as a fairly solid date (give or take 3 months for the "everything will change" tag). That 3 months became 2 years and the hype backfired on alot of people. Seasoned Red Users shouldn't get angry because the companies marketing strategy backfired on some people.

On the other side of the coin, RED have been open, very hepful in posts, added new features, are constantly raising the bar.... and most importantly are offering ground breaking products at affordable prices.

If you can live with the RED way, then you will be rewarded in the end.

If the whole RED way stresses you out... keep an eye on RED occasionally and keep an eye on what everyone else is launching. Then, when the camera that best suits your needs arrives... go for it and get shooting.

Yes I agree. I think any RED One user is going to be going down the road of EPIC anyway. If they are after a Scarlet, as an addition cam, then they will be waiting just like the rest of us. I'm sure RED are going to release dates when they have a good stock of cameras ready to ship out. It has been their intention to have no waiting list like the RED One, where people would be waiting months for their camera. I just don't see that happening this time. I've waited this long and I want a camera that is as perfect as the RED team can make it. We're not that far away now!! :willy_nilly:

Hello Reds

Hello Reds

Iam one of those who are waiting Scarlet for years.

I read this forum since R1 was released, and first time I wanted to register to the site was when Jim released the "bug" thread, informing that release date is delayed because of a bug they are trying to fix.

Do you remember that day? :) I wanted to say something like "it's ok Jim, I will wait as long as it needs to be fixed". I really appreciate that kind of communication between Red owner and the "fans". It makes me feel like a member of a family. Anyway, I didn't write anything, because there were thousand of similar posts from other "family members".

And I did it today. As it's my everyday routine to find any kind of information regarding Scarlet release I have to say that I feel the same like author of this thread. Pain. Not because I don't love Red company anymore, but becasue I want to have that camera so bad! :)

Anyway, I bought 5D2 two months ago. What does that mean? I just can shot anything I planned. I can train how to shot with manual focus for example :)). I can enjoy filming.

It's maybe the answer for all those ppl waiting and considering what to do like I was. It doesn't mean I don't want Scarlet anymore. Of course I want! And I'll wait till it comes out. Then I sell my DSLR (and maybe not:), and buy Scarlet!

That's my way of waiting.

Good Luck RED. I almost love your way of beeing company :) :emote_hippie:

I too am waiting as patiently as I can till middle of next year and then I have to buy whatever is within my budget that will do the trick. I understand their statements but they are not under anyone's authority to deliver and that leads to a rather laid back attitude. They even released some specs that ommited an entire product line, didn't they? And had notices to then announce upcoming notices. It would do a fair sight better to have NOT mentioned anything at all.... But that's not been their MO.. They've done a great job in selling the sizzle and not the steak and in creating a buzz.. and that's a great thing for their company. People aren't patient and you even see people taking shots at them. Arri announced that they had a product and that it WOULD ship on an exact date. There's some comfort in that and comfort in knowing that they are pushing the limits... but for how long. Canon had a prototype 4k camera they showed off this week.... If it's another year or more, then someone will be taking their lunch money... As it is, how many scarlet potential owners have gotten pissed off with waiting and counted them out, and or bought something else.... I know from my experience that I don't let anything out of the bag till it's ready.... that is, unless I want to hype it up...

All this being said, I'll tune in when it's ready and pick one up. Simple as that, but that doesn't happen in 8 months or so... well then I"m off to the AF100, or whatever else might be out there...

I do find myself wondering why folks jump on this forum to threaten "Unless RED comes out with the Scarlet soon, I am going to be forced to do something drastic... like... like... buy another camera!!! So watch out or else!" :willy_nilly:

C'mon. We all want the camera but holding your breath until you turn blue still isn't going to magically make it happen. And, so far, RED has indicated they will release it as soon as it is ready - but no sooner. You think you want it more than they want to put it in your hands? :icon_bs:

You need a camera now, buy a camera now. It REALLY is that simple. You can't shoot with something you can't (yet) have. Scarlet will be great, just like the RED ONE is already great and the Epic will be even greater. Until then, well, we all have to wait and use whatever other tools we have at our disposal. :001_smile:

And to those who think RED is going to be "one-upped" by anything that is currently in the market or close to being there... think again. If the new Canons or the DSLRs meet your needs, go for it. But you'd be doing yourself a disservice by convincing yourself they are "just as good." :arf:
