Ok, despite the risk of getting lynched, I must say I am confused about the release date(s) of Scarlet (and Epic): the promotional sheet still says the Scarlets are going to get released in Summer - Fall and Winter (according to the singular brains). Yet mr Jannard recently said the development of the new Red cameras has slowed down because of the economic mess we're all walking through...so does anyone have a clue?

i believe that Mr. Jannard said that all dates are subject to change, and have been pushed back a bit. I believe the economic mess has played a part in this.

I got that (economic mess and delayed release) - and that's what puzzles me: if they won't release 'em when they originally said they would (nothing to be blamed here - business is business), when will they?

I know a lot of freelance cameramen who would be eager to buy the high-end Scarlets and present themselves in the market as a full kit (operator + camera + lenses - even though the Red One's presence has skyrocketed the lens prices).

The answer is: They will be release when they are released. Only RED knows when.

My best guess is that everything has been pushed back at least 3 - 4 months. So things that were coming out in Summer are now Fall, Fall to Winter, etc.

Of course all these date could be pushed back again. However, with RED, things getting pushed back mean they will be even better once they eventually come out.

The last input from Jim was that the Epic X will ship first around September barring unforseen problems with the ASIC fab and testing. There have been hints from close insiders that S35 and 2/3" models will see initial release before year's end. Monstro models were always scheduled into 2010 anyway. We have seen a couple of images from the 2/3" and S35 test prototypes so this would seem to be possible at least.

They will be pushed back again and again, count on it.
It is far than simple to produce a Motion Picture cameras and lenses.
The Red Company is very ambitious with their marketing strategy, but I guess they couldn't had than it in any other way than being ambitious.
So far they succeeded, though with many problems and far from a smooth penetration into the market.
It is still up to the competitors, mostly Arriflex and Panavision, to see how much and which share of the market they will conquer.

I wish they would have the decency to update/remove the dates from the online Scarlet/Epic brochure. It still says FF35 scarlet winter 09 which in my neck of the woods was over two months ago.

Winter 09 is December 09.

with the delay is February 2010

Ah yes I forgot that Red has also innovated their way into a new seasonal calendar slightly skewed from the one the rest of us use here on planet Earth but far, far better. I guess Jan, Feb and March 09 were just the cold months of spring. Seriously though, are you claiming this or did you read it somewhere on the boards? Who from Red said anything about december 09 being the quoted "winter 09 ?"

i think the real question is where did they say it was supposed to be 2 months ago. I'm pretty sure the majority inferred winter 09 to mean november/december and not 2 months ago. Especially if you note the order they are presented starting with the summer/fall and then winter

At first I thought the same, but the shortly after fall of 2010 for the rest of the cams made me think they referred to the later winter late 2009 vs. Jan 2009

Regardless of the tomato tomaaato nature of our conversation here I think my original point was it would be nice for someone at Red to take five minutes and take the original estimated ship dates down from the site so as not to confuse/dissapoint people.

Use of "winter release" to mean "available Nov/Dec, in time for the Holiday shopping season" has been commonplace as long as I can remember. Chill out, man.

That however, is a reasonable point.

I'm hearing rumors at my workplace that we may go back to a five-day work week starting June 1. If that's the case, all you folks at Red have my permission to go back to triple overtime working on Epic and Scarlet.

That is all. :)

Went to a Red user group last Saturday and the expectation is still late Summer - Fall, 2009.

yep thats what I heard too (from a person who would know these things, trust me)
I would say the cinema version COULD come out by early October...that's my best guess.
