  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDWideGamutRGB and Log3G10

RWGRGB with Log3G210 + IPP2 3D LUT look good on my Touch monitor.
No regrets for DG2/RG4... only missing feature (in this moment) is the absence of IPP2 LUT in playback (in camera).

Having it in camera is nice but it´s a bit like haivng redlogfilm in camera you dont use it much there its more a thing when grading. Same goes for RWGRGB.

Just so I can verify I am not losing it...In REDCINE-X Preview, Denoise slider seems to make some crazy adjustment that looks to have nothing to do with noise but color? Minus Green? Graeme? I moved slider by accident and was trying to figure out what happened. Image example below in attachment.

Please send me the R3D from that Jason and I'll dig into it.

I tried to duplicate this with a similar shot and couldn't see any issue. I think I'm going to need the exact R3D that's doing the problem. Also, are you running RC-X on GPU or CPU?

You nailed it Graeme, Only an issue when running GPU OpenCL with the AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB that is on the 5K iMAC. If disabled and only using CPU no issue. I emailed you the R3D.

Have any of the preliminary/official RED conversion LUTs been made available yet (even as beta)?

3rd post of this thread.

Playback in camera is the only thing that has issues for me right now.
A bunch of the run & gun stuff I do the client looks at playback in camera.

I like the new color, "smoother" then DC2/RG4 I've been using.

The comment I made earlier about noise, .. TOTALLY my screw up, .. I missed on exposure.
One issue I've noticed after the FW upgrade is sometimes I don't get the full histogram, the "ends" are cropped off.
Happened again in shoot last night too. Then I'll un-plug the monitor cable and plug back in and it's fine.
It happens often w the 5" monitor when I power up I'll get a screen that's 1/2 white and 1/2 black.
When I remove and re-install the cable without powering camera down it goes to normal.
Happens with every cable I have.

There is the preview cube lut in camera that can be used.

Yes, just the preview cube for now. Before more come out I have react to some of the feedback and put some refinements in first.

So full IPP2 has some tweaks like how the histogram works to help you with exposure. I'm looking forwards to you seeing what we've come up with!

So, the latest development on the "official" LUT is Phil's LUT? Am I assuming that correct? I'm about to grade a project and need to choose a LUT to work with.

Phil just put up the IPP2 Preview LUT that I made for download. Using that one is fine. If you need anything beyond that, you can email me and I'll help you out.

Yep, that's just a copy of Graeme's LUT that gets sent out in the firmware update. I've updated the post for more clarity. I haven't released any of my RWGRGB/Log3G10 LUTs yet. Been busy testing them and getting feedback from a few peeps. I'll be done with them this month if everything plays out correctly.

I want to get this thread going for technical questions on REDWideGamutRGB (RWG) and Log3G10, and how they fit into the new IPP2 system. To start:

https://www.red.com/downloads/585358faf01b3062ab0009f8

is a white paper I put together with the basic math, sample code, graphs and details so you can integrate RWG and Log3G10 into diverse workflows.

Graeme

Graeme, thanks for this paper ! Finally, all information in one place directly from RED !

Btw, given the RWG primaries and the ITU D65 white point, I checked some of the 6 digit transforms posted in the paper. When rounding to 6 digits only, I can confirm:

RWG 2 XYZ NPM
XYZ 2 RWG NPM-1
RWG 2 Rec2020 TRA
Rec2020 2 RWG TRA

--> on some values, there is a rounding difference, the last digit is off by 1 tick

I get different numbers for:

RWG 2 ACES AP0 TRA
ACES AP0 2 RWG TRA
RWG 2 Rec709 TRA
Rec709 2 RWG TRA

Given that the specs are clear for AP0 and Rec 709, could it be there is a bug on your end or are these TRAs tweaked by you on purpose ?

Also, Is there a white paper on DC2 / DC1 as well ?

Particularly interested in the coordinates of the primaries... doing a bunch of transforms on DC2/DC1 footage and having the exact coordinates would help precision.

Thanks and please, continue this approach in the future !

Glad you like the paper. I'll check in with you on the math.

Is RWG and LOG3G10 with output LUT supported on Nucoda? A colorist asked me, but I'm not sure about this.

From which version of Nucoda?
