  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrock microRemote?

I too would like to hear those numbers.

And "Network Television" doesn't mean much to me - there are some pretty rough-looking shows and some great looking ones.

The microRemote is working on ABC's Pretty Little Lairs, which I would categorize as one of the great looking ones, granted that I don't think I'm their target demographic when it comes to plot hahaha. As for numbers, the microRemote is an all digital 12 bit system.

Hi,
I have a question to people who have or are currently using this RRM unit with an epic or scarlet and a V-mount or AB mount battery set-up. When powering the base station and motor via d-tap from the cameras shared V-mount or AB mounted battery, are you experiencing any power draw issues when powering both this and the camera simultaneously? Are you noticing a significantly different camera run-time when leaving this unit powered from the camera battery? What watt/hr batteries are you using? Basically trying to get an idea as to how much power this unit is sucking with fairly average sort of usage.
Thanks
Tom

Hey Tom,
Im using Red bricks and powering the the RR basestation, motor and the paralinx arrow transmitter via P-tap with no issues and Im still getting about 1/12 hours to 2 hours out of a brick. I can give you more accurate times this weekend. I'll test and report back

Hey Guys,

Update on shipping. We did re-open sales in mid-october one last time to reservation holders before going ga, and it sold out. The good news is the next sale will be for general availability, working on that now.

Brent,

The remote is being used on a network television production right now, and it's been working very nicely for them with their Arri Ultra Primes. There are features like torque adjustment for finer focus, and the ability to bracket your lens to get a longer throw on your controller where need be. I would suggest trying the system first before you buy it, but I expect as more users receive them you'll be hearing more and more about it.
Can the system be powered with the Pro I/O?

Björn,

I imagine it can. I have not tried it personally and we do not make a cable to do so, but I have seen people cut cables to power the basestation in some pretty unique ways. The voltage range of the I/O seems to be acceptable. I know Terry West of South Bay Film/Video has made a few different cables for the microRemote Basestation now as well.

What's important too is the amperage... what does the MicroRemote system draw with, say, the base station, MicroTape powered by the base station, and the motor. It only supports one motor right...

When the motor is actually moving a lens, it will draw anywhere from 1-1.4 amps depending on how much torque is required to move that specific lens. When the system is idle the amperage is negligible.

Can you use the finger wheel or the hand wheel at the same time as the wireless remote?

The wireless handheld controller automatically overrides the fingerwheel once it is turned on. This is nice because you can essentially leave the fingerwheel plugged in and rigged up at all the time, and simply turn on/off the wireless remote control when you want your AC to take over.

Used this for a shoot the other week - AC's loved it, and it worked GREAT.

_Very_ pleased with this gear for the price.

To echo an unanswered question from earlier in the thread, how does the control sensitivity of the redrock microremote compare to a Bartech or Preston -- same level of fine control of at lest the bartech, or is that a compromise that made the price point possible?

And are these units as quiet as bartech/preston?

Thanks!

It has adjustable sensitivity so you can tune the motor response to hand wheel response amplification.

The AC pulling focus on my shoot compared it favorably with the Bartech system.

this system is all digital , has something like 16 channels to select from, has an auto calibration mode, and is easy to set up. I am not sure if all the sets come with a motor offset bracket but it helps get the motor out away from the rods if you are on a 15mm LWS setup.

I heard Samy's camera in LA will be renting these - great way to test it out before you buy one.

Personally I liked the one we rented quite a bit.

August,
As Dan said, the sensitivity is adjustable, a 1-10 scale with 5 being default. It really comes down to taste. AC's on higher end sets seem to like the system at the 7-10 range, and funny enough DP's who are testing the system out seem to like it in the 3-5 range. Personally, I'm a 7 myself

There are a lot of systems going out to rental houses and resellers now, I'd highly suggest getting your hands on one yourself and trying it out!

Dan,

Glad you liked the system! Love those BTS photos! We're planning on getting a few of your new Arrow Plus systems in the office to pair up with the microRemote, looks like it's a match made in cinema-heaven :aureola:

Sounds like a great product.

Does anyone know if the MicroRecmote Fingerwheel would fit on the guide handle of a stedicam Scout/Zephyr? It's a little thicker than the redrock handles. Or is the attachment for the fingerwheel adjustable/modifiable?

Woud be nice for some gigs to be able to pull focus as a steadicam op for music vids or fashion films where some focus search is acceptable.

August,

Thank you we are very proud of how the remote has turned out. Right now the fingerwheel isn't optimized for fitting on the Steadicam's handle, but we're working on something better along those lines...

Andrey,

Without knowing the specs of that handle I can't tell if our fingerwheel will fit on that. If you've got one on hand, shoot me a PM with the measurements and I'll see if I can't figure something out.
