  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

sorry for asking again - can we also order a 5x5 and/or 6x6?
we mainly use these >100mm frontlens sized angenieux zooms....
 
laguun, I don't really know if I am supposed to be spilling the beans (I wasn't told not to), but it is my understanding that the RR MB will take Arri filter holders. So, if you get in a pinch and can't wait for RR to ship their holders, you do have an option.

I am in the same boat as you with the large diameter Angenieux zoom, so it may be an option I exercise as well.
 
this is from the shipping news email that they sent out a couple of weeks ago:

"Filters – the microMatteBox is designed to support filters in sizes up to 6x6”. MicroMatteBox will initially ship with a dual-purpose filter tray that supports both 4x4” and 4x5.65” filter sizes. Support for specific filter sizes will be based on our rollout of supporting filter trays. All filter trays fit into our universal filter stage, which provides 360 degree rotation and secure locking of filter trays."

So, it looks like you're good, laguun.
 
3 month ago I read "estimation price 500$
with swing away and 1 rotating stage", and a few days
ago I saw 995$.

995$ it's sweet compare to arri ,
but I'm surprised the price is now
twice the (3month ago) estimated price,
even with

+metal for plastic
+2nd stage rotating
+19mm for 15mm

just don't give an estimation or just say 3000$
(for estimation price) and then,give a surprise...

At the end of the story (next month),
I will watch, compare and I will buy the mattebox who
give me more for less.

Manufacturing a product for mass production
and all those changes have a cost, but a cost
you have to consider it will make profit during
10years, 20 or 40...+++ with no more changes

Personally I dont like Fanboy or "LAMECULOS":

I have almost 20 years of experience as dp with few international awards,
I never own my equipment but I know, for sure, the price of the stuf!
So please take a breath and be repectfull, would you like I tell you : take your med and go play with your hv20 on weddings? no?

The scenario you laid out is not entirely accurate.

We do not currently have a $995 bundle. The base microMatteBox configuration is $595 which is roughly equivalent to the specs we originally laid out for the $500 target price (thought we added all the upgrades mentioned above). The propoed $995 bundle included all those enhancements

and in addition to that the following

19mm rod support
Full flag kit
pelican case with fitted foam

For that $995 bundle, in response to feedback, we scaled back that package to $795, and still retained the most requested Red feature, the 19mm native swing-away arm, and you get the full flag kit.

Again, I can understand questions would arise of a doubling in price for the same product, but I encourage a closer look at the details of how things evolved: a better kit with better materials, more features, and features Red owners requested, still at an incredible deal imho. Personally I don't own or use an HV20, though we have one for testing purposes :)

I'm a wedding/portrait photographer, not a wedding videographer. Oh the irony! I'm being silly.
 
This is really getting heated up here.

Guys, there is a lot to look forward to when NAB hits.
A lot of unveiling for many companies and new products
that are going to blow our minds with price, function and
quality in the good and bad way.

Let's actually examine these products first hand and
leave it till then if they are all worth it.

With the growing competition, the customers are at
the advantage for a change.

Citizen K - Theres a 95$ difference. Thats all I see. Nobody promised all you get now for 795 for 500. It was plain clear that this would not be a "no worries" package, but a start. And the price was an estimate. Still pretty close, still a steal deal.

Stop complaining, its ridicilous.
When I read this thread I want news, instead I see only "its not 500" whining.

Since some of you have PM'd me asking about pictures, we should have pictures of the production version sometime next week. The microMatteBox is shaping up to be the matte box really nicely and the native 19mm arms look great.

Yep - the 'ol DIY days. We still have those DIY guides for anyone that wants to build a DIY adapter with very little money, some time, and a little gumption ;)

We plan on being at NAB on Tuesday, so hope to see you there and take a close look at my future matte box.
