Will material shot on RC42 need a new SDK? Or will the "RedRocket-SDK" support this aswell?I suppose RedCine-X will, but what about the Linux-apps?

Doesn't need a new SDK.

The answer is yes to Quad HD RC42. The caveat is that REDCODE 42 will not work with 8GB CF cards. It will work with 16GB CF, RED RAM or RED Drives.
Jim
I wonder if it could be possible to record a Quad 1:2.4 image to save some space and increase the quality of the image for those of us that don't need 16:9? Probably not worth the effort but it is a thought.
Maybe I shouldn't be so concerned with the size of the files... sorry to keep bugging you Jim, but I would love an estimation of the size. Though the difference shouldn't be that big and the real question is when we'll get those darn 2TB 7200rpm HDDs.
Well - 42 megabytes/s - you can probably do the math...
I wonder where i can sold the CF 8GB card, it will be obsolete pretty soon
Oh that is what this Number means?
Is that also true for REDCODE 80 -250? 80-250 MB/s?
(Sorry if I'm a bit slow...)
I doubt that 8GB cards will be obsolete... it is very difficult to tell REDCODE 28 from RC 36. Even more difficult to tell RC 42 from RC 36.

Jim
It's a variable bitrate (or maybe, more appropriately, byterate) codec so the number is only roughly analogous to the actual MB/s. But it gives a near approximation of storage needs.

Although I shoot RC36 whenever possible I cannot see the difference between RC 28 and RC 36. I have yet had a client bitch about compression artifacts on RC 28. Does RC 42 just create more disk space and increase render times? What is the advantage?
4.5K is welcome but really only useful for a 2.40 spherical finish. I would add my vote for extra vertical resolution as I am also a fan of anamorphic glass on Reds. Could increased vertical or horizontal resolution be made user selectable when setting up the project?
