  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCODE 42...

REDCODE 42 will be coming in about a month to the RED ONE. It will be available for 4K 2:1 and 4.5K 2.33:1. No charge. An easy firmware upgrade.

Jim

Thanks Jim!

Amazing !!!

Who the hell would ever think buying camera with a shit load of upgrades for free? :emote_happyhappy:

Jim, is there a catch?

This is amazing!

Fantastic news! Thanks Jim and the team. It shouldn't be called the Red One, it should be called the Red Many.

Dear gods, how many more surprises have you got up your sleeve, Jim?

Jim could we prey please get an estimate of file size to calculate storage?

And if you would be so kind as to answer two for us: Will the RED Rocket handle RC42 24fps in RT?

Thank you for everything!

This forum never fails to surprise. Well done Jim and the team

Hehe niceee...

Isn't redcode 42 the same as for the upcomming scarlet 2/3 ?
Is the scarlet comming closer ..... ?

Sweet, is the RedCode42 in 2.33:1 using the absolute maximum area of the current sensor? Does that then mean that "RedCode36 in 4K 16/9" is the same quality as "RedCode42 in 4,5K 2,33:1" (thinking about that the 2,33 is more pixels and should increase the bitrate if kept the same quality)

Although the step from 36 to 42 sound more then the difference between 4K and 4,5K.

Keep the good news coming.
(hmm, how will RedRocket handle this?)

Nice! Glad to hear it, it'll be fun to see what the difference in compression gives us.

If it's technically possible, those of us in commercials and TV would love RC42 for the quad HD [3,840 x 2,160] shooting mode. It's about 1.2% fewer pixels than 4K 2:1, so it seems like it ought to be possible!

I know, give us [me?] an inch and we'll take a mile. But I can't help but ask!

Shooting 4.5K on the camera at last... can't wait.

Some day you will wake up in the morning, blindreach over for the R1 resting on your side pillow, and you'll hear a sweet voice saying:
'Good morning sweetheart, my Name is EPIC.'
