  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X

I'll drink a beer with Mike anytime. But just so we are clear Mike ... YOU'RE WRONG!

Ok, well... since you guys had your beer already, now I ask in hopes to satisfy my curiosity.

What kinds of shows are you counting in your totals? I would appreciate anything either of you could share which helped you reach your conclusions.

I would be very curious to hear some numbers and projections, fact or loosely based on fact, completely subjective... it doesn't matter.

getting back on topic- I know it is only 3 days into August, but any word on the development and release of RedCine-X ? I'm itching to be able to play with this ...

In my case, I was talking about network television - that means anything on CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, and the CW networks in prime time. Drama, comedy, doesn't matter. As far as I know, the only show being shot on Red this coming season in that category is Southland (I'm more than willing to be proven wrong on that, though). There are about 7-10 shows on film (2 on 16mm, the rest on 35mm). The rest are being shot on various HD cameras - in the case of single camera, they are predominantly on either Genesis, F35, F23, or F900 variants, with one (Flash Forward) being on D21 (or at least it was being planned that way), one on XDCam (Community), and one or two on Panasonic (3000 or 3700). Most of the multicamera sitcoms (there aren't very many this season, but there are some) are on F900 variants, with the exception of one that is on film (Two and a Half Men).

The studio feature world has been very slow since late last year due to a number of factors - the SAG situation being one of the obvious ones, but the general economic conditions being another. At the studio level, the vast majority of pictures are still being shot on 35mm film. Of the ones that aren't - still the exception to the rule - what I've observed is that the current "camera of choice" seems to be either the Genesis or the F35. The most predominant areas that I see Red being used are independent pictures and, even more significantly, commercials - which up until about a year ago were still very much committed to film. Red has significantly changed that market.

I'm not going to prognosticate as to where all of this will end up, because the one thing certain about the future is its uncertainty. The only thing I will predict is that by the time the 2010/2011 TV season is upon us, the only shows left on film will be a few legacy dramas, and by the time the 2011/2012 season comes along, film for television will likely be history. What will be used in its place, and what the dominant cameras in use will be, time will tell. The SAG situation, and the subsequent rise of AFTRA representation, really accelerated all of this by about a year. The change was inevitable, but very few people were prepared for it to happen quite this quickly.

Alpha not till later in the month...

One week to go- any word on RedCine-X?

Brilliant- look forward to it. :)

I have just ordered Snow Leopard, as I suppose you will need it to run RedCine-X on a mac.
At least it will certainly make it a better experience.

Thanks,

That is false... REDCINE-X will work just fine on Leopard...

Thanks for the rapid response...! And a good one, BTW. :cheers2:

Well Im still gonna instal Snow Leopard ASAP, if only to get rid of this damned gamma issue, once and for all. :)

Sorry to be skeptical but I have heard it all before. Just very bitter with apple at the moment as I have just found out that there is no upgrade path for Volume licenses of FCP. It's nice how apple looks after the pro market isn't it!!

Cheers, Chris
