  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Build 449...

Hey Deanan, great to see you at NAB. Later versions of RCX working perfectly with my 90 minute takes!

It's been suggested that a future version will allow us to map functions at will. What I'm hoping for is the ability to apply different looks via keyboard or Tangent Wave. This way as I go through my EDL in RCX, I can just throw on the look for cam1, cam4, cam3, cam1, cam1, cam2 etc. as I advance through the edit.
Would make it much faster than using the mouse, or trying to copy/paste from a single buffer.

Will this be possible, or is something that could be considered?

Thanks!

Jim Hare

That's because rocket is doing the decoding and the image is not returning back
to the computer to make a histogram. We're not doing a separate decode on the
host yet.

Thanks.

I am not too technical. Is there another way of seeing the scopes? Do I need something else, an accessory?

You can now map most functions to keyboard shortcuts but not looks yet.
Looks are a bit trickier but we will check into it.

Thanks.

With monitor output via rocket off, the scopes are right under the histogram.
With rocket monitor out on, you'd need an external scope.

This version should be more robust for switching between monitor out and back.
If you run into it again, send the log files to redcinex at red.

You can add my name to the group of Win 7/64 users still unable to turn the monitor out back ON after turning it off. I've already sent in my logs. I had to roll all the way back to version 252 to be allowed to turn the monitor on/off and back on again.

Nice, but unstable version...
On Mac 64 OSX 10.6.5, impossible to record the RMD automatically and lot of application crash !
Red Rocket upgrade done, but sometimes a split frame with strange colors...
Waiting for a next upgrade very soon.

More bugs in 449 for Win7/64.

I am no longer able to open the Quicktime setup from the export options panel. The setup button lights up when I click it but nothing happens. Could you also explain how Quicktime (Exp) is different from Quicktime option?

I can't export any file type at all. Every attempt to export comes back with "Finished with Error".

I've sent in the log files to Redcinex@

Could you please link to the previous firmware for the rocket card so I can use 356 for the time being?

Using the MC Color, the wheels are still WAY too sensitive to use. With 32 and 64 bit versions. We are on Mac with current Eucon. Is there any way to adjust?

I am trying to understand some things re: HDR Mode in RC-X449. Perhaps these have been covered elsewhere in the vast vast vastness of reduser.net that I can't find....??

Questions:
1: HDR blend slider. I assume -1.00 is all highlight track and 1.00 is all normal track, and not including some kind of fudge factor. Right?

2: I'm a little flummoxed about what's happening to my good old dependable friends the HISTOGRAM and GOALPOSTS.
- any manipulation I do of the HDR BLEND slider results in corresponding changes in the image in the VIEWER window, but not in the HISTOGRAM. It seems as if the image in the VIEWER shows manipulation of both HDR and LOOK CONTROL, but the HISTOGRAM shows only manipulation of LOOK CONTROL and ignored HDR.
- my instincts are telling me that the HISTOGRAM is showing a representation of only the main track, and the GOALPOSTS are showing only a representation of the highlight track.

Am I missing something? It seems like whatever the image in the VIEWER does, the HISTOGRAM and SCOPES should too.

3: Goal posts see like they're only showing what would clip in the highlight track, not the main track, or both tracks combined.

4: Where can I get some clarification on Manual HDRx pairing? "Build 447 and higher" pdf manual is a bit thin on what's exactly being paired and how.

Would it be possible to upload a clip for us that shows this problem? Please email me: rob at red dot com

Thanks

It is hard to keep up with all the posts and HDRx info...

What is in RCX 449 is the remedial HDRx blend option. Graeme's new Magic code goes into the next major release... hopefully soon.

Enjoying the new build! Just wondering if anybody else is running into the same small bug I am where in 449/64bit os10.6.6 nearly every time I command+H Rcx my browser/bin/export window disappears, especially when exporting. Thoughts on possible fixes?

I've tried resetting windows.
Tried downloading another version.
Thinking about resetting preferences or p ram or cache or something but other builds didn't have this issue so didn't want to further break what's otherwise working fine.

Thanks

Confirmed, got the same issue here. Looks like its a UI problem with this build.

I have this issue too. The same issue existed in build 356E (32).

Excellent. Thanks. And still pleased/shocked/amazed to get a direct response, in under an hour, from the owner of the damn company when I post a question. Wow.

btw Jim - I've shot tests to try to realize the potential of using HDRx as a tool for image stabilization in post (Ted and Michael C. mentioned this at REDucation last year).

1: shoot in HDRx mode
2: isolate highlight track alone, and auto-track & stabilize horizon in Autodesk products / synthEyes etc, using superior sharpness of highlight track's short exposure time
3: apply that stabilization to main track (or HDRx-blended main and highlight tracks), taking advantage of natural motion blur
4: use power of 5K bayer res to crop in slightly and have a close-to-4K resolution result, depending on how much cropping needed to stabilize.

Dream world is to do all this in native R3D. Right now, the "R3D Trim" mode in EXPORT just exports the main track as a non-HDRx trimmed R3D (main track only), and I've only been successful EXPORTing highlight track only as a QT. It would be lovely to be able to EXPORT an R3D Trim of either track or both, exactly as you've selected it in RC-X, allowing you to create the necessary files do the above process in native R3D.

So if Graham is working up a "Magic" version w/ emphasis on HDRx, adding that R3D trim functionality would be a beautiful addition to ease this process.

many thanks.

I didn't see anybody else mentioning the EDL import problem so here it goes:

Win7 64bit: EDL import is not working any more.

It lets me setup all the usual options but no clips are imported in the timeline or bin and no crash or error message is coming up.

RC-X 416ER is working fine though.
