  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Build 449...

I'm not sure if the MacOS version has these problems but these are still evident in this release for Win7/64 with Red Rocket card installed.

  • When enabling the monitor out, Red Cine-X is trimming the end of the clip significantly (can be over 10 sec). If the clips are playing from the timeline the last clip on the timeline it trimmed.
  • Any version of RedCine-X after v2.5.2 will give an error “Failed to open monitor out. Help: Monitor out cannot start without a clip open” after a the monitor out is toggled off, then back on after playing a clip. Only forcibly closing RedCine-X and restarting it will correct this error. RedCine usually hangs up when trying to shut it down. If the monitor out is toggled off after it is on clips are no longer viewable in the viewer window and RedCine-X hangs and needs to be forcibly shut down.
  • The monitor output is enables and a 'snapshot' is taken of a frame the monitor output goes black and Redcine-X has to be restarted. RedCine-X hangs when trying to close and has to be forcibly shut down.
  • Audio (including embedded audio) is not going out through the HDSDI stream of the monitor output.
  • When playing back a clip in with the monitor out enabled and then pausing that clip, the point on the clip jumps ahead if the curves tool is touched.
  • Significant audio delay when playing back clips with embedded audio inside RedCine-X viewer window (terrible for onset monitoring) but not evident in rendered files. This delay has been evident in every version I’ve tried.
  • Live scopes are frozen when monitor out is enabled.
Any fixes or suggestions?

AWESOME that you guys put the scopes in there. VERY, VERY useful. Thanks a bunch.

I'm also having a problem with RMD autosave with the Win7/64 version.

RMD's aren't autosaving if you open a clip and tweak it from the browser. RMD's are hit n' miss opening in the bin, right clicking 'save RMD'. RMD's seem to be autosaving if I drag the clips to the timeline and baselight grade from there.

We'll check into your list. Can you email your log directory to redcinex at red dot com?

Wow, scopes! This saves me from running a power-sucking beast of a G4 with a Kona card and ScopeBox software alongside my main machine whenever I want to do a one-light in REDCINE-X. Not only does it make my life easier, you're helping me save the environment while I'm at it.

I was looking forward to Storm for the scopes if nothing else, but although I tried every beta release along the way, it just never jived with my working methods. I'm glad you didn't take the attitude of "Storm has scopes, so we don't need to provide them."

A big thank you to the REDCINE-X programming team for never resting on your laurels!

"Live scopes are frozen when monitor out is enabled."

Same issue with my setup.

That's because rocket is doing the decoding and the image is not returning back
to the computer to make a histogram. We're not doing a separate decode on the
host yet.

Guys - waveforms!!!! You have made my day, finally I can use industry standards to help in assessing color correction work in REDCine-X and matching the histograms to a known reality. Great work...

Would this be the reason why when Rocket monitor out is switched on, the viewer freezes and even when the clip is changed the old clip still hangs in the viewer. This is on Win 7 64 and it is the one thing above all others I would like to see a fix for. Scopes update is not a problem for me as I have Blackmagic Ultrascope connected to the Rocket output.

Another problem I have, not mentioned by others, is that when Rocket monitor out is on I cannot export properly. I get black frames. Then I have to restart RCX and do all my exporting before turning on the monitor again.

This version should be more robust for switching between monitor out and back.
If you run into it again, send the log files to redcinex at red.
