  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Build 351... finally.

They either have to use RCX or wait for the color-goodies to populate the SDK driven applications...

Ok, but even if they use RCX, is there a file I send them that will make it so they can automatically pull up the look? Do I just save the look preset and email it to them? Or include it on the transit drive?

Save rmd's with your files.

Clipfinder conforms a lot of thing to a lot of things. Works smoothly to allways stay updated on singnalworkflows. New RCX shows up with some new goodies, I can conform an edl/xml in clipfinder and send to RCX for firstlight that same day.

No waiting.

Real treat

Installed RCX this morning.

Worked 8 hours straight.

No crashes.

SDI on/off all the time.

This starts to look like software one could use not only for the reason that it has the latest colorscience...

The new RC2/RG2 has a nice balanced "flatter" less contrasted/saturated look compared to its former RC1/RG1.

This will be a much better starting point for a grade rather than having to "Swing back" skin tones and some colors back to neutral before starting the look/grade dev.

excited to put a lot of old footage thru this new version for a project we're in the middle of now.

thanks for the new secret sauce!

Jason

I don't understand. Is this something I do with RCX? Can you walk me through that? I've pulled up the clip in RCX, set RC2/RG2 and done some minor adjustments. Image looks great. Now what? Do I HAVE to use Clipfinder?

Thanks.

Saving RMD's
Do your grade
Rightclick on the clip and choose save RMD (replaces the earlier rsx in functionality)

You need clipfinder to conform an edit, not to do a grade.

Say you've cut on offlines/RAW and want to use the new RED toys on your images:

Export edl/xml (from FCP/Avid/Premiere)
Conform to RAW (if not cut in RAW)
Import subclips from XML
Send to RCX
Firstlight/grade
render
Clipfinder re-conforms your timeline to the new clips.

It is a hell of a tool

Cheers

Yes, it's designed to be very neutral, but look reasonable as a basic graded look, compared to REDLogFilm which is also neutral, but very flat.

Oh I see. You have to put the clips into bins first, then grade, then save RMD. Ah, this is good, this makes sense. Thanks!

You can enable "Automatic save RMD files" in RCX preferences.

So much faster and easier to get the look i want.

Yep, more neutral and natural.

Bravo Graeme and all the RED team :)

playing with some footage from some extremely challenging lighting conditions and all I can say is...RC2 and RG2 are phenomenal. oh my. thanks, RED.

Awesome! Exactly what we needed. Kudos to your whole team for more nice work.

Every time I try to open a clip, the program immediately locks up / crashes. This is not exclusive to this build, or even recent builds.

I had assumed my computer simply didn't have sufficient horsepower, but I recently got CS5 and discovered I could edit R3Ds just fine there (not FAST, but fine).

What steps should I take to diagnose this?

Hey Lee, are you on a Mac or a PC?

I'm on a Mac... (or CustoMac depending)

The first thing I do every time I install a new version of RCX is backup my old application support/Red folder with a zip file - then erase the existing version and start the new app... this generates a new support folder.

Sometimes different versions have incompatibility across support packages...

Hope that helps.

Happy to try and help you if there is anything else I can do.
