  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X BUILD 31 BETA ( With D.E.B )

Since it's raw though can't the camera just by default turn the checkbox in how it outputs/plays back footage to apply the DEB, even though it's not baking that effect into the image? For DIT use, or even on-set prores capture bypassing RCX is an important step.

I guess that's what I'm asking, not to hard bake in the effects, but for the camera to be able to play back footage off camera, or during capture, with the DEB processing via things like the SDI port?

The other thing is any idea how long it'll take for this to filter in to Premiere, Resolve, FCP? No offense to RCX, but realistically for editing and post it's an app I'd like to be slaved to for the least amount of time necessary.

Thanks, Jarred.

Woooow...
Nice Jarred and Graeme, thanks a lot RED Team.
Meters updated is cool.

I'm with Isaac, having it as an option with a box to tick would be very very ideal please. If it was in the camera firmware creating it as another point I metadata that automatically had it "on" when opened in Redcine and though whichever other platform that uses the SDK to create their plugin would help a HUGE amount would it not?

I'm not even sure you'd see this level (of what DEB is correcting) at the camera level.

Also, Redcine X needs to be set to full debayer resolution to see the effects.

Not every shot needs DEB and I certainly can tell you I'd never know when to switch it on or off. It's really something you see when you crop the image in the very fine details.

This tech is best right where it is, at the REDcine X or post stage when you can critically view the effect it's having at full resolution.

Listen to Jarred. He is 100% correct on this.

I can say its good to know its there if you need it and just shoot away and decide later. It would be tough to evaluate through the touchscreen or the 1080 feed.

About the the best way to do it in camera would be to put a marker in the file telling RCX to turn it on for the clip. That way if you were handing off footage, a DEB marker could force it on in RCX or SDK enabled applications. So the info would go into the RMD file at the camera but not baked into the footage.

If it's possible, I encourage red to consider this for their customers who have to hand over footage.

This is why I love our customers so much... this is a fantastic idea David. Good job.

Fantastic, patiently, well not so much :) waiting on our Dragon arriving here in the north east of Scotland......

Thanks you so much RED TEAM. In my opinion the red noise artifact must be eliminated inside the camera in a future firmware release when the color science is perfected.
The REDCINE-X fix solution of the red noise must be only temporary for existing footage. No REDROCKET no CPU/GPU requirements. The images must be perfect out of the box from the sdi/hdmi ports for obvious reasons (monitoring, external recorders).
There is no reason to have a problem forever inside the camera and fix always in the post. I can't tell this to my clients. Less problems, happier clients. Keep thinks simple.
Can't wait to have my camera back with the DRAGON upgrade.

Keep innovating. You have great people on the ground with a great product.

Jarred your responsiveness is such a cool attribute...and you've just demonstrated how useful Reduser can be with the bosses regarding feedback!

Hopefully all the negativity that can overwhelm certain threads rolls off you! I think there are a great many of us who care deeply about Red being the best it can be, and of course it always starts at the top.

Yes...Brilliant...thank you!

Crazy idea...dynamically auto loading black shade setting based on temp & framerate? ;)

Blessings,

I know the temptation is high to make D.E.B happen in camera and call it a day.. but it really is best to do as much as possible in the color science.. it is the power of REDCODE RAW.

D.E.B is pretty incredible and Graeme has done it once again.. but D.E.B has improved 5 times over during the last month, and I am sure it will get better. If it is locked in camera, whatever you shoot will be locked with whatever the achievements were at that time. If it is in Processing then you get the best of the current best ... and apply it to old footage and new.

Another example is with these Changeable OLPF filters. Some people may switch filters along the way or during a shoot and forget to set that filter in the camera settings. If D.E.B ( and other color science ) was locked in camera to the wrong OLPF, you could have the wrong results. In RAW, it doesnt matter if you shot the entire month with the wrong OLPF setting... you just change the metadata in your post tools and your back on track.

Don't think you were listening Alexandro's ;). Reds front to back *ecosystem* is their strength & "baking in" not their philosophy.

Cheers,
