  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Build 158...

Hi Jim,

Thanks Jim for the 158 preview Build.

Thank You Deanan for the scripting preview.

Please add this feature that we have in RR?

Render: Clips at Once > 1-6
Render: Cores per Clip > 1-8 Etc...

Would be nice to have it under Export Tool. :)

This feature would be really nice for times when I don't have my RED Rocket™™™™ with me.

Right about now, I am shooting in India. Rocket Machine is down for the moment.

Thank You Everything.

Michael T.

We're working to improve the threading and memory usage. The first step is to separate the quicktime export from the app so we can have more memory to speed up the rendering. It's coming...

First things first, get some sleep!

Well, Agree, some sleep would be nice too.

Take care.

What if we could beat that U/I?

Jim

Beating Apple at user interface is something I don't hear a lot of people saying they're willing to try. But I'm always in the mood to watch someone give it a shot! :emote_popcorn:

You know what would be really cool, in a kind of UI-ish sidebar that occurs to me sometimes? There are frequently things that I'd like to touch up on a frame-by-frame basis, but there's always that hurdle in place where you have to decide whether it's really worth the effort of sending the footage out as a series of dpx or tiff files. A lot of times it's a really small thing, too. Like 42 frames of a company logo or something in the background of a shot that I could clone out fast in Photoshop on a frame-by-frame basis if it wasn't such a hassle jumping into a series of frames as opposed to a video stream. It would be great to be able to quickly make that jump in an intuitive way. Just highlight, right-click and "Send to DPX" or something. Same thing for reintegrating the frames into a video stream. It would be nice to send a small number of frames out for "dry cleaning" and then be able to put them back painlessly.

I mean, that may be retarded and there are probably workflows in place for that kind of thing that I'm not aware of, but it's something that pops up for me often enough that I find it annoying.

It's basically two ways of doing the same thing.
One on the project level with save project and one
on the clip folder level with the RMD in the clip's folder.

GOT IT!

That's great that is saves a look direct to the original R3d folder. Thanks for clearing the RMD situation up for me.

Link to download latest version?

Never mind... it is in the same place as always...

Where is the link to download this latest version? Please, advise.

Thanks!

A couple comments using build 158.

Audio

I notice that when enabling rocket to preview HD-SDI that audio is not carrying through the HD-SDI in either P or PsF, but carries through the systems audio card. When HD-SDI output is turned on the audio continues to carry through the systems audio, but is not in sync.

Timecode

Time code seems to be flowing correctly when PsF is not selected, but when PsF is turned on the timecode no longer functions correctly.

These are two of the major things to me that I came across.

thanks
Colin

Audio issue...

Audio issue...

If I use either the new Clipfinder, or the EDL2RCX, the audio is not carried into the project at RC-X Build 158. :scared:

Any idea or suggestion?

Thanks!

Hello,

Noticed a bug in the exports last night. When I installed version 158, it carried over a preset that I created for exporting video into ProRES. It seems to have turned _off_ the audio check box. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until I had rendered several clips (without a rocket.. ugh..).

Thanks!

Noticing a few things with this build...

- Pick White balance seems to select 1700 no matter where in the frame you touch
- Garbled renders if contrast is adjusted
- unexpected quits
- QT renders have gamma issues to 720P or 1080 going to DVCPro Codec
- does not seem to take advantage of all cores when rendering without Red Rocket.....

GUI is still chunky. (the playback in the icon is "cute" but is it functional?)

-I'd like to see better design applied to the interface.
-The interface is not the star, the footage and color is the star (maybe 18% grey as teh background in the viewer instead of black?).
-Back off the loud orange or make it user selectable.
-I'm thinkin' tonka toy with this interface....
-Still bulky on a 23 inch display...
-better separation of the clips in the timeline is needed. Look at mulitple takes and you'll know what I mean.

Good things.

-debayer quality selectable
-Much snappier in low resolution
-you listen and it keeps improving

Can you email me a jpg of the garbled render?
Maybe also a log and a system profile as something seems strange on your system as we're not seeing any of those problems here.

We're doing an optimization and UI pass after we get functionality up to speed.

I tried to use 158 for dailies on the set with the Rocket but stopped using it for that because of the many problems:

- sometimes no audio when rendering
- output of h264 too bright
- crashes
- in some shots 4.5k footage suddenly gets scaled to 16x9

I'd recommend using 104 or rocketcinex for production as those are the official releases. b158 is the preview beta so we can get feedback before doing a official release.

For the above issues:
1. What channels do you have turned on for audio in the export preset?
2. h.264 is part the quicktime gamma mess.
3. send us the crash reports and the log files (turn on verbose if you can recreate the crash)
4. sounds like the framing settings was not set for all the shots.

Cool.

E-mail sent....
