  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED WEAPON - Info and Data Sheets

Added the info on Interchangeable OLPF compatibility to the first post and a pretty picture as well.

One thing I can confirm. Red has been working rather hard on Weapon.

Thank you Jarred.

Plot. Thickening. :)

you should cross post this in the poll thread.

If there's a possible 'plan' in place for helping move from 1.8 to Mini Mags, that's good timing, as I was looking to move to Minis anyway and flog my 1.8 cards. I'll hold back for a bit.

I'm very happy to feel all this excitement around but.... wouldn't have been better to have the Dragon sensor with the new body instead change every year the equipment? I'm the only one a bit fed up to have surprises just after spending thousands of euros?
Regards

As long as there is a major saving from the upgrade path vs buying outright it makes financial sense. I agree it would have been great to combine dragon with weapon but they wanted to get the new sensor out to us asap.

New sensor? Is there something I missed? I was under the impression that Weapon was a new body utilizing the current generation of Dragon sensors, though getting more performance out of the sensor than what was possible in the Epic/Scarlet DSMC brains due to the other internal components. Where has anything been said about a new sensor?

Just guessing here Alessandro, but I think the new body is only possible because of recent miniaturization advances in boards, etc.

Is that a wheel on the side of the last picture? Either that or a clone brush that chopped off part of a screw.

The only bad thing for us is: Phil is out of the guessing game!

I actually think the polar opposite.

I don't think it's "bad for you" at all that I'm out of the guessing game. There's a lot of people who are weighing options, making plans, and managing funds to handle the forth coming Weapon upgrade and the Mysterium-X shooters who are deciding between upgrading to Dragon or not.

Overall I'm in a interesting position as I understand a lot of the various production workflows and concerns from the owner/operator, studio, and post perspectives. In fact, being candid, I get phone calls and emails at all hours of the day regarding Red cameras and workflow, heck all cameras for that matter. I'm mostly focused on the realm of feature films, commercial, and more recently broadcast productions. But, you guys know me and know I do a bit of indie work here and there. Hell. I love taking my Dragon out by myself and exploring weird subjects even. Considering relationships I have with various houses and studios I would say it's a very rounded and broad POV.

I can think of two statements that are very relevant to people making decisions.

i know this is a bit of an odd position to put you guys in especially for the newer guys that havnt been along for the entire ride...It is for sure a leap of faith.... it always has been and thats why we do the upgrade program, to reward those that take the leap of faith. You don't need to do anything. You can still buy a NEW weapon further down the road and not do the upgrade plan, but its just going to be way, way more expensive than if you follow along the upgrade path.

The reason I am telling you now instead of @ NAB is that it not only gives you more time to get your ducks in a row if you want to partake.. but also because if you have a Dragon before NAB you will be paying less for the upgrade to Weapon than if you get a Dragon after the first day of NAB and upgrade to Weapon. Its a bit of a double credit... You get a nice credit for having Dragon and going to Weapon, and you get an extra credit if you have already gone to Dragon before NAB.

I have already probably said to much... I would tell you the pricing and all the other info if only you guys were listening... unfortunately though we do have competitors and I am sure they would be very happy for me to spill all the beans before NAB.

Jarred has actually been very, very kind by sharing this information about the Weapon Upgrade. From a company perspective just mentioning Weapon before NAB can effect sales of certain items, both for the negative and the positive. If he said nothing, people's needs/wants/desires would not have changed really until April. However, he's outlining exactly what to get ready for and to give you an idea of what's to come. Plus he's coming from a very genuine place because he and Red actually values it's customers. There is literally no other camera company that would even think to do something like this.

Another statement.

I'm not about hype. I'm about usefulness and possibilities. I certainly get excited by technological advances, but those two categories are key for me.

The Weapon teases have been nice, but if you guys recall Steven Klein's quote "I have seen the future today".

I left Red Studios Hollywood agreeing with that statement.

Don't know what you're saying/seeing, but this shot is straight from my cell phone.

That's the stainless steel thread for the M3 bolt there.
