  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First thrown together tests - something shot a bit better later on but for now proof of concept. These are my creative elements used (ones I used in Epic Dragon body), they are ground down top and bottom, black edges removed to give much more flare, lower contrast. Elements hand assembled so not perfectly aligned to give a more organic look. Custom dead EF mount to get the flange distance workable.

OLPF removed and additional unit with OLPF and elements in its place. No camera modifications are needed just a different lens mount.

8k is wider than full frame, 7k is full frame. Great to have 6k at s35 ish. - At 8k FF some lenses will produce edge vignetting. Works very well at 7k and 8k WS etc.

Camera running beta firmware, Low Light OLPF and IPP2 pipeline in camera for extended highlights and output in ProRes to maintain that.

I will have to do a test with my clean element version, as this was with the creative one. Shot in 8k WS and 7K WS, mostly 7K WS and all on a Otus 55mm.
Have to say I love the imperfections and personally this would be more my style over edge to edge perfection. But the clean element version is pretty spot on, although you do get more internal reflections bouncing off everything on both versions.
 
James, have you ever though of partnering with someone like Richard Gale? i'm sure he would be able to machine the parts and knows how to get glass made to order.
 
I agree, i want a creative and a standard. So what happens with the Olpf? Is it still in there? I assume this negates the exchangeable Olpf feature
 
What would be nice is to see who would want this device and if there is enough interest then I will get things moving.

Just a list of names and if they are interested in a clean optic version or the creative version or indeed both and also what lens mount.
 
Quick update.

have now installed using the new turn to lock olpf caddy and standard olpf. Its mounted as close as possible to the internal optical glass above the sensor to allow the native RED EF mount to be used. Had to basically cut out a circular shape on the baffles and now need to do the same on the circuit board but it does mean this could get a whole lot easier and chuffed to get a proper mount back on the camera.

I did get a few grey hairs turning that lock.

Reaches infinity on the Otus and thats always a lens that is always caused me trouble before.
