  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION

Can i order just the CF card station and use Esata speeds to download the card? Do I need the Base Station as well?

I'm quite sure the base station is not required.

The reason why one might want the base station is to send a power cable to an one unit. It provides power for up to 3 devices which can be stacked one upon another.

I am quite sure of this as well, but I need to be 100% sure, and that Requires and answer from someone at RED. After all, we are talking about a $250 CF card reader ;)

This thing better rock!

Yes.. the base station is like a really nice power strip that does a better job at sending cleaner power to each module than separate wall warts does, and also is a solid foundation for the stack.

Its modular. .you don't need it if you don't want it, that is kinda the whole point of the modular system. Same as the CF module, or the 2.5" or 1.8" module.. you dont need to buy them if you don't need them :)

Jarred's answer a few pages back.

KO

$250 just to do away with the power cables?

but we could do without the base and power it up straight from the outlet and connect it to a computer for offloading?

correct...

I have enough cable misery in my life... Thanks guys for making the base station! :hurray:

I placed my order for Red Station CF today and posed the ETA question. Answer was they don't know, and won't know more until end of May. I only bought the $250 CF, as it'll function by itself.

Red Station CF will have immediate use for 7d and 5d media backup on set. Why spend $250, then? Design, for one. DoPs and Producers notice your gear. Second, regardless of the camera, card transfers are critical.

Though it's half the cost of an iPad, nobody has yet to pay me for fiddling with an iPad.
I already have media card readers, so I'll keep those going. Hopefully the Red Station CF will ship in early June, but it's out of Red's hands.

I undestand that Red Station is in both 1.8" and 2.5" ssd configurations. So does this mean that there will also be modules for Epic/Scarlet that will aloww the user to use either 2.5" ssd drives as well as 1.8" drives?

Jarred earlier in the thread...

"There is a 1.8" REDMAG SSD card that will be released, that card will be used to record footage on camera via the 1.8" SSD Camera Module. The REDSTATION 1.8" Module to read that card will come out over the next few weeks.

The 2.5" REDMAG RED STATION module will accept normal 2.5" bare drives, so you can put a bare drive in ( Spinning or SSD ) and use it as an external hard drive, to offload cards to or for storage, etc."

Thanks. I just wish the 2.5" module were an option.

Hey Jarred, any updated news on when the Bases Station and CF module might ship? Thanks.

Hey sorry guys.. still going through the gruesome FCC and EMI testing, it something that most products don't do as extensively as we do, and some people think its overkill, but being something that you are trusting incredibly valuable media with, we want to make sure everything passes with flying colors.

CF is the next module that should be complete... and we have a whole truckload of them ready to ship once they do.

YAY! Thanks Jarred. Great to know there's a lot of them waiting - so we won't have to. You guys so rock.

Still waiting for our number in the FCC testing que to come up :)

it really sucks you guys dont get to use these yet... they really are great, all the guys that have been testing them in the field keep asking for more :)
