  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION

Can someone explain to me what this is? How is it different from a CF card reader?

It is a CF card reader, a very very fast one. At a very good price compared to the alternative which is the 1000 dollar Sonnet esata reader.

Are these going to be available once FCC has approved or is there a large number of people in line already?

The good thing is that we have made a whole boatload of them while awaiting the certification... so we should be able to fulfill all the pre-orders plus new orders after approval.

Jarred, is the FCC review a mere formality, or is it a pretty stringent/lengthy review process that may require modification of the current design?

I'm sure it would be fairly stringent, but I don't think RED would need to modify the design because they would have designed the devices to be well within any limits for everything the FCC test for (I'm guessing that's RF interference and so on).

it is incredibly stringent... you would be surprised how many electronic devices on some of your desks failed FCC.... But I honestly think it is a good thing ( as painful as it is ) that I am holding back shipping these until they are perfect in the eyes of the FCC, specially when dealing with your data. As most of you know, we don't mess around when it comes to protecting your data.

We have already done some modifications... board level changes were made along time ago and now it's mostly just getting perfect grounding. We saw some competitor's products that failed certification that if you gave a bit of static shock to it would kill the drive/card dead in a fraction of a second.. Scary stuff.

So if you're already building them I guess you're pretty positive you're going to get the certification...good news (assuming no surprises).

How do EC standards compare to FCC?? You don't need those as well do you?

So Jarred. If I was to order now - you'd have the item ready to ship once FCC give you the thumbs-up?

Hey Jarred. Just received an email telling me the Red Station Base is ready to ship. What's the status on the CF module? Got the M-X email at the same time. Exciting times!

Just received mine as well...seems like they are ready to ship....
