  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION MINI

Could you tell me please What is this RED STATION MINI for?
Compact form factor makes the RED STATION REDMAG 1.8" (MINI) – ESATA perfect for offloading your REDMAG 1.8" media when workspace is limited and portability makes all the difference. Connects using Firewire 800 or ESATA ports.
What does it mean in simple words?

Yes that is an issue that a lot of us here are awaiting a date on. Some are saying "if" but I believe the next gen of Mac Pro towers will come in June.

USB will be a separate mini station... mostly for the PC guys.

Thunderbolt we continue to look into.. but there are a few issues... like no Tower support for Mac's.

For USB3, these seemed to work, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270301 . Just have to run two cables, one for USB power and one for USB3/esata. USB3 native readers will be useful for bus power though. If I recall I didn't get a lot more than 100MBps though, maybe that device is sata1.

Or don't mess arround. Just do a raw sata dump to another commercial SSD using a sata-cloner/copier. Runs as fast the commercial SSD/sata can handle. For pure fast-download-low-cost setup is far superior.

Well, there is no space limitation with towers, no need for this box, one can easily use the normal, bigger one.
The small box is neat, but seems actually pretty useless without new technology.
Add two thunderbolt ports and make it thunderbolt powerable, that would be rocking.
Whats the percentage of MacBooks on set for datawrangling and/or DIT ?
My wild guess, >97%

In simple words... It's cheaper.

Thunderbolt doesn't need a tower. Especially because this is the MINI Red Station. For people looking for mobile and compact systems, if you want a Mac, you are forced to go for the 17" if you don't want to fight with 3rd party TB to eSATA adapters. If there was a native TB Red Station, and there is already TB drives, then data wrangling on a Mac doesn't need to be on a 17" MBP you can use an 11" Air (if you want). For the people that want a professional workflow in a backpack, Thunderbolt is the way to go.

+1...

Props to Red for making something they already offer... but now smaller and cheaper! That's cool.

Think I'll be able to pick one of these up at RedStudios on Monday...?

Of course I read this as my Redstation 1.8" arrives on Monday! Doh

Janne is it possible to give us all a bit more info about what hardware your using to do this as this sounds like a great idea.
