  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Does the Duclos 11-16 cover the new 5K sensor?

The short answer is yes.

The truth is that the exact image circle needed for full coverage is a matter of some conjecture at this point outside of RED.

The best information I have seen is that the S35 Mysterium-X 5K sensors will have a active pixel array such that the image circle needed for full 5K coverage will be 32mm.

According to Matthew Duclos's Image Circle Database, the Tokina 11-16 has an image circle of 32mm at a focal length of 11mm and an image circle of 41mm at a focal length of 16mm.

(The information for the Tokina lens is near the bottom of the page)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info.

I dunno but it rocks in 4.5 K!

The Tokina has quite generous sensor coverage. Have a look at Ken Rockwells review of it's use on a FULL FRAME ( 24x36 ) sensor here: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tokina/11-16mm.htm

I'm excited to try it on one of the first Epic's in captivity.

That all jives with what is on Matthew Duclos's site.

You can use the Tokina at its tele end for full frame work, but by the time you hit the middle of the zoom, you are seriously cropped.

So, if you are shooting full frame, the Tokina is a 15-16mm zoom- or you crop.

On a S35 sensor it gives a full image without cropping or vignetting at any focal length.

Its a pretty amazing little lens.

I'm hoping to pick one up for general still use with my 7D. Of course, I'll end up shooting it in video whenever that camera becomes the video camera. People always want wider with S35 sized sensors.

If I'm happy with the EOS still version I'm thinking about grabbing one of the Duclos PL versions.
