  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Shipping

If it's the buyers responsibility from the moment it ships, why do we have to sign when the stuff arrives? That does not make sense....
My unqualified guess would be that it's not yours until the moment you sign the fedexslip, until that point you just prepaid an order.

Because the carrier has a limited liability and they are protecting that liability. You believe what you want, but you might want to do some research first. I can assure you what I have posted is correct. Please read the terms of sale from Red, or Arri, or Canon or anyone and make your own decision.

Most Credit Card Companies Give you Protection. I think it was a Federal Statute For CC companies In the USA. I Know My Amex insures all my Purchases.

Amex has the best buyers protection...I have used it several times. Just remember, this isnt insurance. This is an enhancement to insurance, and a very good one!

BTW- there is no "Federal Statute " requiring credit cards to offer this. This is a perk that is paid for with added fees (from the merchant and the consumer). If you are a business that accepts credit cards the fee you pay is based on the perks the card offers. You will pay a lower fee with cards that do not have these benefits.

This has been a very enlightening thread, thank you to all who posted. I know gear (and other things) I have bought are shipped insured and I think it's probable that there have been shipments where I assumed there was insurance when there wasn't. To be safe, I will probably see that the gear in question is insured through my regular insurance prior to shipping. Thanks again.

I saved money by dumping the shipping fee, Im picking mine up at the factory next week. This way I can do all my checks at RED before I walk out the door. I want to shop and get some shoot wear anyways!!! :yesnod:

I saved $50.00 just picking it up, and the factory is only 30 minutes away....All of you in LA can change your status from shipping to "WILL CALL" PICK UP

The Consumer Protection Act has language, that Covers Loss, also the Statute USC title 15 which cover Commerce and Trade, Have Language that Cover this, in regards to Carriers for hire, Foreign or Domestic Air or Ground. Company Disclaimers Can say whatever they want, but if it Violates Title 15 its Irrelevant. The Credit Card Act Protects Borrowers against Loss Greater than 50 Dollars and that is a Federal Statute.. I think title 14 CFR 374. Even more if you incurr a loss Using a BANK DEBIT card you have zero Liability. Loss is Vaguely Defined too, which benefits the borrower, (BLACKS LAW)...

My Point is.. If your RED is Beat up, dont worry. There are tons of Protections Out there for you as a Consumer, Even without Insurance.. Plus Carriers usually cary General Liability as part of their Business Practices. .. Look at the major accident we had on 10 near Houston, two FED EX trucks all wrecked and the Packages were mostly destroyed and Damaged. Suck if your RED ONE MX BT gets destroyed in transit. What replaces it then....

this has nothing to do with insuring your equipment.

It backs the Notion that you really Dont have to insure it at this level(in transit) in the game, but you are definitely encouraged to. The original Post brings up the Issue that RED ships your Suff uninsured which is Typical of Most Businesses. Are they liable? Are You Liable? these are the Questions I think. Accordingly, I replied.

In my honest opinion, Not to be Interpreted as Legal Advice in any way, If I Buy a product From RED and they Dont do their due diligence in protecting my investment when shipping it, I can Consider it Negligent on their part for not making sure your product arrives safely, also on the Part of the Carrier, and also on your part for not inquiring about additional Shipment replacement Insurance. This has to be a Non -Issue at RED. Im sure of it.

The original post also has nothing to do with insuring your equipment. It was about liability for loss in transit from the seller to the buyer.

Terry, the consumer protection act is about fraud. The OP specifically asked why Red didnt include insurance on shipping which are two entirely different topics.

This thread is full of mis-information, im checking out of this. I sure hope someone doesn't lose equipment because they failed to insure their gear properly or listened to some of the strange theories found here.

I dont Disagree with Greg, My point is Yes Insure it, but in reality There are Liabilities on all parts of the equation legaly, despite disclaimers. in shorter words
