Shot some E-mails back and forth to Big Jon today and he told me something that I think should be posted here:

There is a 3-5 day shipping window on ANY order you make from RED. In stock or not, back ordered or not. If you order something today, RED says not to depend on it shipping until 3-5 days after you order it. On phone, online, does not matter.

I, like many of you thought that if a product was in stock, I could order on say, a Thursday morning, and have it Friday. Not the case, due to business issues of which I am not aware, RED is not ready to commit to that kind of turnaround.

That said, I'd like to think they will make exceptions where nessesary in case of an emergency, provided EVERYTHING does not suddenly become an emergency.

I am sharing this cause I waited on getting a RED Drive thinking I could get it in one day, but I was mistaken.

You may notice at the top of the store when you order something:

"clients who have already taken delivery of RED ONE can now order additional accessories for immediate shipment "

Do not be fooled.. this is NOT the case. they do not guarentee immediate at this time..

(you know Jon.. Come to think of it, you most likely should remove that line from the store) :)

Hope this helps in your planning.

Jay

the sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Actually, Mike, your picture does seem to fit a "sky is falling" motif.

:-)

I always thought Mike's photo was a "stand-up comedian doing a political figure impersonation" rather than a "the sky is falling" motif. :)

My interpretation of Mike's photo was always "vignette panic"

Jay, you’ve got to be kidding with this thread. Unless you’re talking perishables, processing an order from date of order, then receipt of funds through getting it to the dock for shipment in 3-7 days is well within reason for most companies. With the history of Red, we all know that such a window is FAST. If you get your order in at 4:45 PM on a Friday, are you expecting your mdse by Monday? Many may have complaints about Red, but this should not be one of them.

You've clearly never ordered from B+H. That is how I've come to expect shipments.

Hello,

Or Newegg.

3-5 days is not problematic, but its very good to know about the delivery speed of reds shipment division.

I suppose that red has many top priorities right now which are more important than speeding up accessories delivery.

This is pretty important to bring up...I have often overnighted parts from BH etc and its good to know exactly what to expect if I wanted to overnight from RED. 3-5 days...fine, now I can at least plan for that.

cheers

This is an area of service that I hope Red will eventually fix, definately not up to par. If something is in stock and not on a waiting list you should be able to get it within 48hrs. They will eventually get there I'm sure.
Aloha

Man, 3-5 days!!!

You guys have got to be kidding me!

I once ordered this camera from this "company"... I ordered it in August 2006.. They didn't deliver until February 2008 !

Talk about a wait !

Absolutely Jay, it's just good to know what to expect, I could see you weren't criticizing or particularly worried about it.

If you need something in a hurry for a shoot, best to borrow or rent it from another owner.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for highlighting this Jay... good information to know.

Jay, stop your complaining. Since when did people want things at the last minute in the film business?

But seriously, I did not think you were complaining. It is an important reality to be aware of. I do know that Red has gotten items out the door fast in certain emergencies, but they aren't currently geared up for a fast turnaround.

Hopefully, Red can gear up for a faster turnaround sometime in the future. In the meantime, this reality is another good reason to network with other Red owners. (I'll lend you my extra hard drive if I can use your Master Primes next week!) ;-)

I have some spare bolt sets to lend for an EVF :)

laguun,

please check your private message folder

thank you,

Also know that you won't be able to go into RED to purchase something. I recently needed an additional RED DRIVE for a shoot and happened to be in at RED on other business. They just aren't set up for rapid spot delivery of products.

Not a shot, just another FYI.
