So i just spend $15000 on the Kit and the IDX charger power supply is busted out of the box. Im in dubai and ive been looking for the same power supply with the same specs with no luck... wasted 2 days.

Red is being super slow with replying and are just being overall not helpful... Worst experience buying anything ever.

Because one piece of gear is DOA? How long has it been since you opened a support request with RED?

With all respect. Two days is not long time. Things can be broken. I think you will be super disepointed if this little misshap brings you down.

But normally the AC power supplies just work. have you checked if it gets a green light. Or if it´s completly dead, have you checked the pins on the Lemo connector.
If you are a bit into soldering cables you can, if the green light is on, unplug the ac and take the lemo connector appart and see if if there is a soldering error.

Are you sure the AC adapter is broken does the camera work with other power sources? If so do you really need this AC adapter right away, can you not do with battery power until it gets fixed. Personally I have not used my AC adapter in a couple of years.

If you go to a rental place possibly they let you test their adapter so you can see it´s actually so that yours is faulty. And maybe you can rent it from them until yours is fix.

But all in all these and all other cameras comes with misshaps and all kinds of trouble, a faulty AC adapter on delivery is quite slim in comparision with a lot of other stuff.

Aha, so far its not been the dream change over to red i must say.

If you're looking for perfection in process and gear that always works effortlessly, then maybe RED is not for you. There are going to be bumps along the way and it pays to focus on the big picture. If the RED look and performance is not worth the headaches of a single dead charger then look at Canon or Sony. Besides that, you should have like 3 different ways to power your Professional camera regardless of brand. Same goes for cables. Shit happens

The problem isnt the AC to the raven, its the IDX charger power supply. It is completely dead ive tried mutiple different plugs but still no light.
Its just insane that it didnt work out of the box. i've finally managed to get through to someone thats helpful after two, well coming up to three days of speaking to Reps in the UK (i ordered the raven in the UK and got it shipped to Dubai as i just moved here) who seemed like they were just reading a script.

Am i asking for too much for the product that i pay $15000 should at least turn on out of the box? and if it doesn't can i at least have some support through the ordeal? now suddenly RED isnt the camera for me?
Of course i am excited to finally buy the camera that i have studied and have worked hard to pay for and yes this does burst my bubble because i was very much looking forward to actually using it after buying it.
shit does happen for sure and i am sharing my experience with everyone.

@Matthew - I hear your frustration, but "things sometimes happen". Stuff can get damaged in shipping, cables rattled hard enough to break a good solder, mice can get into a freight containers, spiders sometimes lay eggs inside lenses, random catastrophic molasses spills can seep into gear, etc...

I've seen some weird stuff.

You have a damaged and/or faulty IDX charger. Sounds like somebody got back to you now and you're getting sorted, but it also sounds like your camera took a hell of a journey just to get to you. Likely through 3-4 different major shipping careers. I have no idea what's up with your charger, but it will get sorted.

And yes, you should expect things to work "out of the box", but you should also have the realistic expectations that accidents can and do happen.

Yeah, you're kinda buying the entire package when getting into RED. There folks here who suffered many prototypes from 2007 on to have access to cutting edge technology so you will find your injury of a dead power supply not up there in the RED Gear Fails Hall of Fame ;-)

Maybe try a different approach of less bitching and more solution seeking here on RU. Crazy idea . . . but it might work.

howd you buy a raven pkg from RED, i thought only apple sells them now?

link doesn't state sensor size? what size is it, wasn't there some consideration to be made for size, like its not true S35 and therefore a ?x of the lens. thx.

Red UK is known to not be the best...

I called RED this morning, hung up without leaving a message.

They called me back hours later saying they saw there was a missed call and to make sure everything was taken care of.

That is above and beyond.

While shit may break, they have your back. And if you don't think they do try Sony and see how far that goes. RED is still a boutique company.
Raven is a bitchin camera.

Click "Tech Specs".

23.0 mm x 10.8 mm (Diagonal: 25.5 mm)

I didnt start this thread to bitch really i was just sharing my experience i just wanted to see what you all thought.
And RE:solutions i dont know if youve ever been to Dubai but the online shopping culture is pretty weak aha so its a matter of going out in the streets and trying to find this super weird spec power adaptor.

Anyway RED USA has solved my issue just need to make sure i dont go through the UK reps next time.

Yah, when I got my first RED I did a shout out to the San Diego CA area and was greeted by some of the most amazing professionals who wanted nothing more than to welcome me to the tribe and be there for me in whatever I needed to become successful. In return there was an unstated message that I would reciprocate by sharing anything I had if there was a critical need. It can be a brotherhood if you have something to bring to the dance.

Perhaps you might use your next post to try to reach out to fellow RED users in the Dubai area. Not sure if Joseph and Tom Lowe are still there but sure someone could help you out while waiting for RED to fix whatever problems there are with your beginer's package of gear.

Just a thot

Initially i got a bit defensive but i know you're trying to guide me in the right direction my apologies if im coming across as a spoilt little kid. RED USA hooked me up with a new charger thats on the way and in the meantime i guess ill just go and see if i can find a V-lock charger to use.

But thank you all for taking the time to even address my little problem i appreciate all of your time and efforts. i just had a little misunderstanding with REDs UK reps.

Perhaps if Red was giving away free cameras... maybe Red should work on their reliability issues a bit harder. Crazy idea.... But it might stop people from complaining.

FYI i recieved a bricked Red Epic X in 2015.
