  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Rushes

So, Redrushes is really really cool. It processes the footage roughly 5 - 6 times faster than running it through compressor, which is a huge time saver. May I make a request that I think others would share as well. What is the possibility to export directly to M2V for DVD dailies? That's what we used compressor for essentially was to run the proxies through to make m2v's and such. If we could speed that process up with Redrushes, that would just be a joy! Anyway, my suggestion for codecs or output files is to add the ability to export m2v's. Thanks!

The new version of BitVice ( www.innobits.se ) is multi-processor capable and is encoding MPEG-2 very fast. While it's not integrated into RedRushes, it's a very interesting solution.

I get full speed on all processors (like from Crimson...) when I throw a batch at it.

As it renders with RedLine, that is really no big surprise, but still...

So the way to avoid RC will be to implement the timeline functionality of RC in RA.
But I guess:

Sorry do disappoint your conspiracy theories but there is no agreement that prevents us from doing anything at all. Development takes time and resources. REDalert started as our internal R&D app and was never intended to be released. It's architecture is not easy to grow into RC functionality without rewriting most of it. Doing so takes alot of time and then becomes
a trade off of providing featurs now or waiting a long time and rewriting.

Deanan,

I would be most happy if RedCine just made .RSX files or something similar. That way I can tell Redline or REDrush to use that file for color and in/out info during render.

As for REDrush, I only get white if I tell it to use .RSX. If I use defaults or Meta it works great. I am on OSX 10.4.11. Do I need to upgrade to 10.5 for proper functionality or is this something else?

Adding .RSX or similar to Redcine is my #1 wish and adding audio to REDline/REDrush renders is my #2 wish. QTcoffee is working fine for me right now to get audio, but I can't use in/out points with it.

Thanks for all your awesome work!!!!!!!!

Dusty

Thanks Dusty, Audio should be here fairly soon. You might have an old RSX file that's causing a problem. Try moving it out of the directory.

If you don't have FCP installed, you don't have ProRes installed and you'll get white QTs.

How do you make the RSX file and how do you get REDrushes to look at that file?

does it apply the curves and exposure info?

Sorry I do not have footage to test with it at the moment my camera is in customs and I am on location.

Thanks, Mark

Hello. I'm new to red and this is the first time I am experiencing the workflow. Working on a 4 min short film. Here is my situation.

-I have 83 clips loaded into REDRush.
-25 have been processed in about 18-20 hours
-REDRush has SLOWED tremendously and has basically been working on one clip for about 8 hours with very little progress. (we did some 4 min takes, is this why it's going so slow now?)

I'm using a 2ghz iMac Intel Core Duo, 10.4.11

Thanks for any tips.

Deanan?

While the massive slowdown on one specific clip is probably an issue Red is taking care of for you, I have to tell you that an iMac doesn't really cut it with a Red. Even if it's an impressive machine for it's class, an Octo running a full batch of RedRushes is quite a different beast…

Great little app !

A few questions / suggestions :
- Will we get XML import into RedRushes ?
- A save function (in case of a crash, or if you want to continue later).
- As others said, be able to export RSX looks from Redcine (or be able to import multiple files into RedAlert).
- When will we get all the other QT codecs back into RedAlert / Redcine / RedRushes ? I'm really missing the QT DV codec for offlines...
- Will RedRushes support IN/OUT points ?

Thanks,
Nils.

The RSX file is generated by REDAlert whenever you work with your footage within it.

Thanks so much for this little app. It is exactly what I needed. The quicktime wrapper generator is a nice touch. I'm now using a muxmovie code in terminal to sync up the rendered shots with audio from the wrappers. And that works fine for now. An extra step, but not a hard one.

But I'm curious about when audio will make it in to the renders. Is it problematic because of time or coding? I'm not trying to rush you guys. You've done much more than expected of you. Just want to know because I'm trying to make little automator apps working with the muxmovie code, but I'm not that good at it. Trying to learn. But if audio support is right around the corner I might be wasting my time doing stuff I know very little about :)

No pressure. Just a question. I'm beyond impressed with the work you guys have done.
