  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Rushes

You'll find it as an application on your computer when you install the upgrade to RedAlert.

It's an additional application that installs when you download the new Red Alert. It appears (I haven't used it yet) to be a batch processing utility, so you can transcode a list of R3D files (into 1080, for example) without having to render them one at a time.

I think it's a wrapper for Red Line, easier to use than running a text file through your terminal. Don't quote me on this one - just a guess.

Thanks Deanan. You (and the many involved) never fail to amaze. If you ever take a break, come over to Singapore or any other countries that have Red users. I am sure you be in for a good treat. Lim

Great Little Application, Deanan. Cheers Man.

- 18 monthes reading this forum in english for a french speaking english like a spanish cow...
- 12 monthes waiting after sending some money
- Changing all PC computer for Apple computer
- Leaving our old but robust workflow (vegas, edius, premiere,...) for FCP
- Asking everyday "Why do I need such a resolution ?, such an image quality ?, what will we be able to sell with that camera ?,..."

But when I see how you resolve all the problems of that hard to please community, and what you offer us day after day, i am definitly sure that my choice was the right. In a few days I will get my 2070 RedOne, and i fell like a ten years old jungboy.
Thank you for the dream, and thank you for the reality ! This little RedRushes Application makes the compromise betwen big cinema poweruser and little indie like me.

You're going to love your camera! Please share footage with us all soon!

Just putting REDrushes through it's paces and it's looking good. Excellent little app, makes life a whole load easier so well done Deanan & the team.

One suggestion I'd like to make is the ability to select the Color Space (and the Gamma Space) that I'm outputting in. I know I can set this in Red Alert and save an RSX file but that means I lose the camera metadata settings.

At the moment I'm outputting a batch of files that have various in-camera settings that I'd like to keep, so the "Look Source" in RR is set to "Metadata". I'd like the option to then be able to select "Camera RGB", "RedSpace", "Red709" etc. as my output Color Space.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Great work guys.

Hi Deanan,

firts, great application, much appriciated, helps the Red-workflow alot.

But, I do see all cores working nevertheless cpu power stays a max. 120%. With my MacPro8 we need 1:5 render time for 3K Build15 to DVCPro 720p half debayered. Is there any speedbump possible?

Otherwise the app. I've been waiting for since months.

Thanks for you your great work,

Hans

I would love to hear Jim's description of RedRushes, and its uses.

Also, would love to hear when audio is planned to be added.

I am assuming this will allow you to work with .r3d files, and do a batch transcode into a workable format of choice. When is AVID coming?

Is the best way to describe it like 'log and transfer' for everyone/every codec?

This program seems like a great thing, and I can't wait to check it out.

How many clips are you guys loading in at once? I put 8-10 clips in, and it was working on 6 at a time... My 8 core was completely maxed out.

I was also getting roughly the same %s on my 8 Core. But once I loaded 2 clips I saw the cores jump.

Does anyone know how to grade in REDCine and render in REDRushes?

Does anyone know how to grade in REDCine and render in REDRushes?

How to render RC in RedLine/REDRushes:

Hm... Ask RED, and then they may ask Assimiliate to open up for that. What's needet is to implement color-data in the RedCine XML.
Now let's see how that conversation would go:

RED to Assimilate:
"Hi, I think we have an issue here"

Assimilate to RED
"Yup, that's right. It's called an agreement"

RED to Assimilate:
"But our whole customerbase want this functionality"

Assimilate to RED
"Yes we know. Problem is that they all confuse that functionality with Scratch, and it is so hard to educate people on how much more Scratch really is. And we write some rather significant parts of your code, you know"

RED. Scratching his forehead... to Assimilate
"That is very very true... But what do you do when we release the SDK?"

Assimilate to RED
"Are you REALLY sure you'll relase the SDK?"

RED to Assimilate:
"Yes! Really, really, really!"

Assimilate to RED
"But our agreement! Without that, where would You guys be in the first place?"

Silence.
They drink whiskies
They smoke Cigars
They think of those days in the trenches. The days that sorta aren't really over. And then. As one. They lighten up

In chorus:
"Let's write an encryption layer!"

Smiles and dancing all around.
They allmost forget the subject at hand, and are partly on their way into the sunset, when some nitpicker dares to point out that the rendering engine of REDline s so much more efficient than the one in RedCine (or Scratch for that sake), and that even Lucas stated that without EDL functionality, the RED development tools would be ridicilously crippled.

User:
But with Crimson I am almost there. This is all what I really think I really need for my day to day tasks.

RED and Assimilate, on their way to the sunset:
But we ARE in agreement. We HAVE an agreement. Not even Apple can playback the RAW files. Buy Scratch and be blessed! (If realtime playback is what you're really looking for.) The solution is here!

User:
I don't care much for realtime playback of RAW, I deliver files, not tapes. What I really need is an effective EDL handling and a fast renderer that can be clustered out to a lot of really cheap boxes.

RED and Assimilate:
Didn't you hear what we said? That's not what you need or want. Really, all you want is Scratch! AND realtime 2k playback of the RAW files.

User:
hm... But I thought... Well... You may be right. That Scratch thing sounds like a real good deal.
Scratch. Scratch. Scratch. Scratch.

RED and Assimilate enter the sunset
User stands happily smiling with a 16 disk RAID-0 that can do realtime playback of whatever you throw at it...

--- THE END OF STORY ---

A happy Scratch tester and promoter. Actually... :)
Still thinks this is kinda... well, you know what...
