  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Rushes

I'm having the exact same problem as Josh. As soon as I hit start, the program hangs and can't be force-quit.

Camera is build 16, latest OSX, eight core 3.2Ghz Mac system with all up-to-date RED software.

Are you guys on the latest Leopard? Apparently some strange things possibly happening there. Can you try REDline from REDalert (using render in terminal button) and see if it's working ok?

Hi Deanan - I'm not actually much of a post guy, I haven't used REDline yet - currently I'm spitting out ProRes files manually from REDAlert.

What should I do in REDline to check this for you, pardon my lack of knowledge on the subject - I'm currently on the latest version of Leopoard.

In the render window, at the bottom click render in terminal rather than
the usual render window.

I have the same challenges with redrush. Redline works almost flawless (except for the 2gb file limit over a network and if my render folder file structure is too deep it names all the clips raw.mov) but I can workaround this. My challenge is the redline stuff is too technical for my staff and redrushes makes it so easy. Even without sound as I have a script that will combine the audio and video (so long as I render the whole clip) I am running the latest leopard and quicktime and when I hit go with or without rsx files using any of the choices (I have tried them all) my computer is toast and I have to do a hard reboot. that being said I don't use it yet but I want to.

Just found out today. We should have a fix very soon. It doesn't affect everyone, just a small percentage.

I love this program

I love this program

It's the first rock solid, for me anyway, app that lets be batch process my files, with metadata no less.

But at the risk of sounding ungrateful, I beg...nay I plead for audio pass through. Personally, while this is not an issue for me, as I know the software and am willing to jump through the hoops.

I'm losing jobs to HD every few weeks (not really film) because of this. I have several clients who are not super techincal, used to the P2 workflow, and prefer things fast and easy. Again, all of this is for them relative to just shooting with an F900. Digitize, audio is with the video, they can start editing right away.

Currently I see audio pass through with Red Rushes my only real solution for cleints like that. Red Rushes is easy enough that they would be cool with doing it. But telling them they have to match up, potentially 100s of clips with seperate audio passes is a total deal breaker.

Proxies I don't really see as an options because they come in at "various sizes", depending on what res you shoot at, and stutters sometimes on playback.

L&T for me has some gamma problems currently, and also has it's own issues when it comes to playback and clip size.

Not deal breakers for me, but deal breakers for my clients who are work in the corporate world and are used to just using an F900.

Red Rushes with audio pass though would enable me to snag some of those clients. I would sing your praises to the heavens if we were able to get this before too long.:turned:

Audio support very soon...

Jim

Does it show anything in the terminal window?

Sorry deanan I just fired off a response and did not check back. No I have nothing. Activity monitor won't open if I did not have it open and the whole computer is just pissed. It actually happens identically the same on the four computers I tried it on. Needless to say I just use my little redline script and all is good. Redline is easy for me, but my post crew seems to get confused and redrushes would solve all that. I'm sure it will be here soon. Mahalo.

Same as Scott, nothing showed up in the terminal window. A strange side effect of REDrushes crashing was when I tried to open any other program I'd get an error message that had a number like "10080 Can't open so-and-so" - that's not the exact number, brain's a bit foggy. I had to do a hard reboot everytime.

I'm finally able to recreate this on a 10.5.4 machine at red so I can hunt it down. Something changed in 10.5.4.

Great, thanks for the prompt diagnosis. Any idea on how long before an update? Or will this fix be rolled in with a few more changes that will come a little bit later on?

Thanks.

As soon as I find a workaround/fix, we'll release it.
