  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

Also MAGMA has a rack-mounted version of the chassis, that might just work fine for what they need...

Our focus is clearly on minimum size (without compromising cooling) while fitting snugly under 17" MBP...

P.

Peter,

please show as some of prototype pictures or drawings....

Yep. Also it's pretty easy to rack mount anything that is 1U size and smaller, lots of ways to adapt hardware into a rack. I was just saying I didn't see a reason to try and make the thing a full 1U thickness and/or width if not necessary. I'm not a fan of making anything bigger than it has to be.

Perfect.

Actually the best person to bug about this is me for now. I have a working prototype, but optimizing the internal layout for cooling. The great news is that the chassis is battery-powered (and of course main of the wall too...), so it allows for true portable power-independent operation...

First milled unit will go to Deanan for testing next week, shortly after we will announce the shipping dates for production units...

I have more surprises coming Your way...

 Peter

Bring it on Peter!

I have just finished giving specialist course on RED at the International Film Festival Monterrey in Mexico and I am on my way to USA. You can expect the tech drawings, renderings and photos of the working balsa prototype within 2 days. Fully working milled prototype will be with Deanan before this week is over. Shipping units will follow before end of September pending final tests in the real-world environment...

I completely agree with Jeff - our goal is to make it as small as possible (I am hoping the unit to be less the 1.5" thick with the footprint of the 17" MBP. It is going to be very easy to adapt for rack-mounting for those who need it. The primary use for this unit is in a portable version on a location without the need to be connected to main power. So size, weight, ruggedness and silent & cool operation are the priorities here...

Expect a lot more from me in the coming weeks...

I have just noticed that rocketcine-x build 661 is out (lots of useful tweaks there, thanks guys!) as well as the driver version 1.0.7. I don't see a change list for the new 1.0.7 driver, and as such I am wondering if I should install the new driver while updating my rocketcine software? And if so, should I install over or is there an uninstall process to follow first?

Yes, please make sure you have the latest firmware and driver installed.

any news on a Linux/Mac/Windows SDK?
would be fun if it came before IBC, then I would think a lot of companies would show RR running inside its boxes... maybe even avid :)

SDK with rocket support has been out for about two weeks now for mac/win. Linux will be coming soon.

Now this is very interesting if apps like Clipfinder can run with RED Rocket™.

In my Mac Pro 3.2, (from bottom to top)

the first slot has the graphic card (ATI 4870)
second slot has the AJA KONA LHe
fourth has the esata card

Will the Red Roket work with HD-SDI output of the AJA Kona LHe card ?

Thanks

Antoine

Hello Antoine,

Hans is already working on it and said only will accelerate the playback and the operation at this point. Deanan and Hans mentioned that the SDK at this point is not supporting the REDLINE with REDROCKET support, so the rendering acceleration will come later.

ohh, RedLine with RedRocket....

Imagine MonkeyExtract getting RedRocket support with RedLine over QMaster

Talk about maxing out the storage trying to write those DPX's if you hook up 4xMacPro/RedRockets.

Now thats speeds I want to see at IBC
