  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

sorry guys... a little bit outtopic but where is the link MAcbook Pro with red Rocket?
and the external case company? Some thing like magna?

Sorry guys and Tks

still waiting for release of that info. Believe me, its in their best intertests to do so ASAP as they will sell more Rockets.

hang in there. coming soon

Not sure where to post this, didn´t find a section just for RedRocket / RocketCine X bugs/suggestions.

Found on strange behavior, when zooming into the picture on the rocketcine view via the scrollwheel, after 2-3 times i can´t go back to a "fit screen" view, i hav to change from full to 1/2 debayer, so that the image fits itself into the screen.

Can´t copy look files to other clips, is it me doing something wrong or is it not enabled yet ?

Would love to navigate in the Clip list with the arrow keys, and get the clip loaded and previewed without hitting play. Start stop with the space bar no matter where the mousepointer is would also be great.

When playing back on external Monitor it would be great if the main screen updates (and along the histogram) when playback stops.

it´s so much fun playing back in realtime and watching finder crunching out dpx files :)

thanks
Manuel

We've been testing the Magma and it seems to work fine however the form factor, cooling and cabling is not ideal for on-set use.

Maxx-Digital is working on something specialized that will address on-set use nicely.

double-clicking resets the view. We'll also be adding some view buttons for fixed percentages.

Newer builds (releasing pretty soon) has improved the spacebar interaction.
up/down arrow keys navigate the list up/down.

Glad to hear it! now we can go bug john gylstrand at maxxdigital :willy_nilly:

Actually the best person to bug about this is me for now. I have a working prototype, but optimizing the internal layout for cooling. The great news is that the chassis is battery-powered (and of course main of the wall too...), so it allows for true portable power-independent operation...

First milled unit will go to Deanan for testing next week, shortly after we will announce the shipping dates for production units...

I have more surprises coming Your way...

Any chance of integrating the SDI ports into the new chassis, as opposed to making it double height?

Absolutely - both HD-SDI ports are in the same thin chassis on the side of the 2x RED-DUAL-DVI ports...

:D Peter

I am little old-fashioned - the prototype I have is made of balsa wood. It makes it easier for me to work out the airflow dynamics. Once locked off - I will get the first "heavy-duty" prototype milled from alloy and send it to Deanan for final testing. I will post some pics and renders next week (if not sooner)...

Any suggestions - now is the time. We are listening...

Include a x8 pci-e extender card for the box along with the express/34 adapter

It'll be an x16 form factor slot to supply proper power to the Rocket card. But keep in mind that only about x1 lane worth of bandwidth is available over the current ExpressCard-34 slot.

I'm still curious about just what everyone will be using this mobile solution for. Real-time playback, footage checking, look creation, etc.. all on-set will be great. I'm excited for a mobile solution for that reason. But thinking that we'll be able to churn out 2K+ uncompressed back to the notebook in real-time is going to hit a huge bottleneck. Actually 2K is probably still do-able, just barely. I guess we'll have to see how it works out. Either way, it will still be a lot faster than without the Rocket for transcoding. ..And 4K full quality playback in real-time from a notebook. :sifone:

Glad to see you on this Peter. Looking forward to the surprises.

Well..... To state the obvious. Include a x8 pci-e extender card for the box along with the express/34 adapter, screw in connectors and an internal power supply, ie. no external brick.

Thnx !!!

Done! That was always the plan...

On the second thought - the power-supply is a major issue. To keep it internal will double the thickness of the product, not to mention add to the heat issue - which is the main problem with the Magma in the first place. The good thing though is that the battery will run the box for longer then the 8-hr battery can sustain the MBP, so in theory You don't need to carry the power supply to the set. Just charge overnight and and use all day on the set of battery power...

I would like to hear more people's opinion on this:

A. Compact lightweight chassis (less then 1.5" thick with form-factor of MPB) with long lasting batterry

or

B. 3"+ thicker box with internal power-supply, lot heavier and more noisier (due to more cooling required)...

Please if You do voice Your opinion - please state why...

Thanks

Peter
