  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED RAVEN - Info and Data Sheets

Is the physical dimension of Raven the same as Weapon?
I'm interested in camera base adapter plates required for Raven.
Would be very handy to have a chart that shows the physical dimensions of red cameras, in particular the relationship of lens to camera base. A chart that included cameras from other manufacturers would be very helpful :)

Base to lens height (optical center) of DSMC and DSMC2 bodies is the same.

Jarred already, very kindly, released dimensional drawings for WEAPON and I believe they are the same dimensions as RAVEN.

While we know the camera records a max of 4k, is there more on the sensor? What I am getting at is, when recording the 4k max Rez is there a look around?

No, it is a smaller slice. 4K is max everything.

What is the bit depth of the Raven?
12 bit?

I have tried to look for this but I could not find anywhere.

Is there an actual working prototype of the RAVEN yet?

good to know... were you able to shoot anything?

Jarred was the first to release footage from the camera. He shot some stuff while he's away in Dubai (I think). Or course, of ravens feeding :)

I need to get him to make a YouTube upload of that so we can embed a somewhat decent quality video here.

Hey guys do we know if the DSMC accessoires like the DSMC TACTICAL LEFT ADAPTOR are going to fit the DSMC2 (Weapon/RAven) as well or will there be new ones?

Updated to reflect Jarred and RED's surprise 4.5K RAVEN update.

That brings us to a maximum pixel resolution of 4608x2160 with a sensor size of 23.04x10.8mm.

If thinking about this format-wise Raven's maximum resolution at 4.5K brings things to a bit wider than Academy 35mm.

This format size is interesting as it's suitable in width and height for both 4K DCI and UHD 4K productions as well as going a bit wider, which will be nice for those exploring wider aspect ratios for their productions.

Are we certain that it shoots 4.5K at 24fps? If it's anything like Red's other "budget" minded cameras, its highest resolution will be at something less than 24fps...

If your "budget minded" reference was to the Scarlet, it's worth noting that it's a lack of internal processing muscle that is the limiting factor - not artificial market segmentation. The Raven is a new design with the latest silicon so it's my assumption that RED was able to do things like 120fps@4.5K, that the older boards just can't do. Cameras these days are computers with lenses, so better and cheaper happens pretty darn fast.

I've lost tons of value on my RED gear every year, but blaming them for the pace of technological advancement is unfair.

I'm not blaming anyone for anything; just wondering if it's been stated explicitly that the Raven will shoot 24fps at 4.5K. Judging by what Jarred has said, it's probably safe to assume.

As I am finally picking up more work I am moving back to the Red world and will be doing so with the Raven!
