RED Projector...

Thanks Man!! On Hold too...
Speechless in fact.
Cheers

Hell, I think I'm going to move so I have a basement to build a theatre in. My last two places had man caves with CRT front projectors, still the best image on the planet for projection, until hopefully the Red Laser comes along.

If the home version has enough light output to produce a 14 ftl image with DCI P3 gamut on a 10' screen, it could also very well become a very popular postproduction projector. A lot of postproduction facilities can't use the big Barco's and Christies because they produce way too much light to be of any use in a small room with a 10' screen (and they're pricey). I currently use a JVC RS-60 for grading for DCP which is nice enough but doesn't quite reach 14ftl when calibrated to DCI P3. And of course is limted to 1080p.

Really looking forward to this!

I have read Jim's quotes on this page over and over now and I seriously cant freaking WAIT for this Projector at ANY price.

This and RED RAY after EPIC ships... the power you are putting into the hands of filmmakers and exhibitors is mind numbingly awesome

I agree... this is ridiculous in the best way possible. I am all about this announcement. This and RedRay of course, but this is the fun one. Next best thing after Epic.

Hey I project onto a boathouse on a lake using a bed sheet as a screen using an old Optoma SD projector (oh so awesome... and budget) so I can't wait for this, though I will have to wait even longer to be able to afford and justify it, but I assume even on my budget setup it will blow my mind. I know I really need to upgrade but most of my family couldn't care less, watching princess bride under the stars is very awesome!... even at SD.... for now!

I keep thinking RedRay could make them a couple of billion dollars... the tech. I mean, with RedRay data-rates you can STREAM 4k 3D, even with a crappy internet connection!

Define "crappy". The fastest connection I can get here is 13 megabits/sec.

I never believed he would have the discipline of NOT spilling beans...
I suspect its just way too much fun.

RED really teaches one to understand the true meaning of patience.
Now off to play with epics to make some 3D for that projector...

Red has not taught me patience; it has taught me to suffer through my impatience because it's worth the wait.

Home too? Basement finishing is now officially on HOLD!

Jim, do you even know the impact you have on people's lives? ;)

Well said. RED has affected our dreams too.
I just informed my architect to change the structural plan to accomodate a bigger basement/home theater. The 4K 3D projector deserves better space to project it. :-)

RED is responsible for more boners than anyone in the porn industry.

Hopefully that garners a laugh - I think they could use one right now.

Seriously - thank God for RED and their technological miracles. Without them, who would bring us the future and how long would we have to wait?

I've been around for 4 years since almost the beginning when everything was a scam - this is so exciting to watch.

Now all we need is an announcement of the RED Hoverboard - I wouldn't put it past them.

SO EFFING EXCITED!!!

I'm afraid that neither HDMI nor CAT5 can support the data-rate required to transfer 4K material, unless heavily compressed.
Much less a wireless solution.

We need new cable standards. Perhaps DisplayPort v1.3 could deliver...

Cat7(10gigabit) Ethernet can handle the bandwidth. Is available now.

Eric, that is the whole point of RedRay. You forgot how ridiculously implausible RedRay's data-rate is.

Thing is, it is so small IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! ...So it make sense people forget. :)

Photons in one end of Red, photons out the other end. Somewhere in the middle, a whole lot of awesome happens. Man, I can't wait to lay eyes on this!
