at least in Japan :).

It supposed to come in 28th. I ordered the family pack :).

Thanks Kaku

Ordered....

If I may ask, where did you order from?

Just so you know.. The O/S is incredibly responsive and quick. Even the full install took very minimal time. Boot up times are very fast as well. Apple has done a great job again. Just be sure you dont have any hardware that might not support the new OS. I know some times certain plug in's and what not may not be ready to support it. But once everything comes out for this OS we should see a very nice increase in speed.

Also be sure that your third-party components such as RAID cards, fiber channel cards, etc.. are supported before you upgrade. Nothing worse than going to a new OS version only to find you can't access your external RAID anymore...

I believe ATTO's drivers are already claiming 10.6 compatibility. Hopefully that's the case.

Is there Red support for Snow Leopard yet or will there be in 4 day time ?

Good point, Jeff. Been there, done that. Thanks for the reminder

I just want to say it a bit lauder, to all post production related users, who are working hard every day to earn there living...

Not to upgrade until they see the 10.6.3 ... thats six months from now... at least...

Wait until, it is really, mature... its much better to be, safe than sorry...

If you want to play a bit and size the risk... have a secondary machine or put the 10.6.0 in a different hard drive ...

I will wait... or I will probably put it in a iMac to see what happen's...

If 10.6 fixes the gamma shifting, I'll jump right in on friday.

I think one of the big draws for me was the thought of a 64-bit FCS. With the release of FCS3 just recently, I'm not as hopeful anymore.

Yes, sure, handle with care people.

I always setup a similar working condition on another machine (because RAID incompatibility is scary), then run all of the test.

I agree, but I want the gamma fix and we do have a test machine here. be good to know the status.

I just wanted to stress the point that its not safe to jump on it, in the middle of a production, because, Kaku, Dave, Ben we know what we doing or we are big buys and we accept the risks and we know how to protect our selfs..

But there is a big crowd that is reading these posts silently and take decisions that might going to hurt them...

I had my consulting clients/partners asking this after they read the forum... my advice/request was not to do even the 1.5 Color before we knew it works all the way...

I have one partner that is going to finish a full cycle of tests and then, we will go all to 1.5 for production...

Sure, the gamma shift fix is good, but do we know all the hidden issues that may make the gamma problem look like a joke?

So I just want to say that without knowing it our hype may hurt same people...

You see guys, we are some short of "role model" to all the silent crowd out there... and we have to behave accordingly...

Evangelos makes a very valid point. I'm in a pretty good position to make the jump myself, given that I'm not working on any time/money critical projects at the moment. So I'm fairly willing to take risks.

I would definitely recommend that anyone whose livelyhood depends on smooth function wait for a bit. Given everything Apple's changing under the hood, there's a greater risk of serious issues than with, say, the 10.5 upgrade

I've been running Snow Leopard builds since WWDC and haven't had one problem cutting RED files with FCP (v6 or v7). SL is FAST. Went back to Leopard at work and can't stand it.

Nate, what RAID system do you use?

Nothing special, just an internal 3 x 1TB RAID0. So I can't vouch for any 3rd party systems that do or do not work.

Although SL has the most behind-the-scenes changes. Besides just reading that off the PR headlines, what I mean is that in Leopard, you could get away with a lot of programs that were meant to run under 10.3 or even 10.2. Snow Leopard has modernized the vast majority of the codebase and all of the old software that I got away with using flat-out doesn't work in SL. So I keep a 20GB partition of Leopard with the bare FCS apps installed just in case.

Thanks Nate,

I heard from Tekram distributor here in Japan that ARECA HBA was working with Snow Leopard (not official statement though). I'll have a set of RAID to test it tomorrow when it arrives.
