  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED PRO Mattebox

I'm assuming the mounting bits for the side flags come with them. I'm going to order top, bottom and side flags once they're all available. Haven't seen an answer about the mounting pieces if we want to attach a bottom flag. I haven't asked my bomb squad guy yet, I guess I'll ask once the side flags are up for order.

Looks like they are coming soon.

The needed pieces are not listed, other than the flags themselves. The bottom rails attachment is so the mattebox can be mounted on rods instead of being clipped on. But no worries, I think we'll know about the necessary pieces soon enough. :)

Its too big to be a good clip-on...playing with it on the steadicam rig today. The weight isn't too bad, but its a lot closer to MB-20 than an LMB-5. The problem with making it closer to a studio which would seem a better setup is to put on a swing away (seems easy) make the stages rotational (easy but appears like its going to need too many additional parts to be cost effective) and add a spot for a circular filter. The rings for the clip on I'm also concerned how much the plastic is going to hold up.

Anyone else have any opinions?

received mine today...still have not had a chance to use it... :(

...received mine yesterday, and have had some time to fiddle with it. I purchased it to accompany my 17-50 RPZ...it fits very tightly...took a while to coax it into submission. It is quite sturdy, a bit weighty for a clip on...especially with two filters in play....but it does the job quite nicely especially for the price. I think that lightweight is always a relative term- may be less useful to a steadi op, but more useful in a run and gun situation.

The biggest wow for me, was the packaging design and shipping material. Seriously. I was used to getting the old school brown boxes with white or red stickers on them...and am happy to see a migration toward a sleek glossy black box which (in the case of the mattebox) have the exact dimensions in a schematic on the packaging.

And most importantly, I am not sure if RED has ever been commended for it, but I really love the use of recyclable paper for packing...i wish every company would do away with foam.

shot with it all Sunday, and it was really much nicer than the RedRock that I had...MUCH nicer...I found it really fast to take on and off, when changing lenses, and it does fit snugly onto the RED lenses, that big knob works well, and the way it tightens the filter holders is easy and fast too. It was also much less heavy that the RedRock for hand held work....NOW where is/when will my RED BOMB EVF ship??????

Actually, I have some good news on this front, Kwan. We have have been shipping the RED PRO Matte Boxes and we just received the next batch off the line thanks to our new Manufacturing Adult Supervision. Many customers will be receiving an email from their BOMB SQUAD rep in the next day or so letting them know their Matte Box is ready to ship in the badass packaging. As always, feel free to contact your BOMB SQUAD rep directly for an update :)

Are there any compatible adaptors available for this yet? I need to get down to 80mm.

Are there any updates on the Mattebox?
I really need to pickup another box soon -- but I need rails!

I got my email Monday and got mine yesterday and its awesome as a clip on.

I just need a step down ring for the TOKINA 11-16

It's pretty obvious they are developing other modules (sound familiar?) that will allow one to "convert" this MB
from lightweight to a more robust full MB with Side
lags, Bottom Flag. Rotating stages Etc... swing away to use it more cine style.

But for us, LESS IS MORE as I can now fly the RED ONE M-X on my FS-PRO Steadi-rig WITH a Red RPP

Got mine. It's so awesome, lightweight, simple, and solid. I'll post some detailed pictures later today.

I didn't received my email yet.
Backordered on ssd for one of my MX's too :(
Let's wait...
the only way.
Cheers.

Has anyone figured out a way to make the RP matte box work with Arri/Zeiss super speeds ? I realized our matte box might not fit next time I want to shoot with some.. hmmm
