  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED PRO Mattebox

I'm really interested in this Mattebox but it's not compatible with the Red Pro 300mm which is one of my every day lenses, any adapter coming soon?

Actually, I have some good news on this front, Kwan. We have have been shipping the RED PRO Matte Boxes and we just received the next batch off the line thanks to our new Manufacturing Adult Supervision. Many customers will be receiving an email from their BOMB SQUAD rep in the next day or so letting them know their Matte Box is ready to ship in the badass packaging. As always, feel free to contact your BOMB SQUAD rep directly for an update :)

Nick

Hey Nick,
Any update, i did contact BOMB Squad last month, haven't heard anything except waiting. It has been over two months.

Leaning toward for refund and going for the next one. Sorry but spend too much on MB rental (wish if I knew for long waiting period). will wait for your final comment please

Cheers

Nick, I just phoned... the rep I spoke said 'a few more weeks, maybe a month' - same as last month, and the month before that. They did additionally cite 'disasters' this time; I didn't know Japan had afflicted the matte box too :-(

Mike,

When you called earlier, were you inquiring about an existing order or placing a new order? Please PM me with the name of the BOMB SQUAD rep you spoke with and your order number (if applicable) so I can clear up any miscommunication on our end. The RED PRO Matte Box is currently back ordered, but we have been allocating and shipping to existing orders based on order dates. I can assure you we have been ramping up production to meet the high demand.

Rods, 80mm, Bellows

80mm clip on rigs, please and/or the ability to mount on Rods. Is there likely to be a bellows/donut system for all those lenses that change length during focus?

I just cancelled mine. Haven't heard anything for 3 months. I know it's a "Just you wait and see company" in a good way, but when production gets halted I walk away. And yes, I did rent a mattebox for the production to all those who will scream back at me.

I could really use some flags for mine, but the side wings haven't shown up in the store yet...

More clip on ring sizes would also be great -- especially 80mm.

I already made my own bracket to mount the mattebox to a RED universal mount. Can't always use it as a clip-on. I'm assuming such pieces are forthcoming from the store... someday.

If I could get clip-on sizes suitable for rental Zeiss supers, I'd order now for R1. For the Epic, I will need 77mm for Nikkor Zooms in the 14-200mm range.

I'm not sure I see how that would work with the amount of tromboning those zooms have -- especially the 24-70. I've been playing with modifying a Nikon lens hood to mate with my Arri MMB-1, but it sits on lightweight rods.

True enough, the 24-70mm AFS trombones like crazy, but what difference does that make when the matte box is affixed to the 77mm threads on the front of the lens? The matte box simply goes along for the ride, so that's no problem. It WOULD be a problem, however, when affixed to rails, as the tromboning would compromise the lens shading effectiveness and threaten scratching filters in the matte box, even though I would be using these zooms as variable primes and could adjust the matte box on rails according the the focal length used.

I did, however, misspeak with regard to the 14-24mm AFS, as it has no 77mm threads at all, and the front element does trombone BEHIND the built-in lens shade, thereby posing no threat to filters and not compromising lens shading effectiveness, making it a perfect candidate for use on rails. I also have a 12-24 DX AFS that DOES have 77mm threads and does not trombone at all, so, again, no problem for clip-on use. And the 70-200 AFS does not trombone at all either, making it another ideal candidate for a 77mm clip-on.

Also, note that none of the lens barrels rotate on any of these lenses as they are focused or zoomed.

I am waiting my mattebox about 3 months.. is it normal?? Anyone experienced anything like that?? :(
Jealousy

i bought an MB18 from Arri in March and have been told i will receive it in July, so RED are not the only camera / accessories company to have a back order.

thanks:)

jarred, 80 mm would be nice ;)
