  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED PRO Mattebox

although im not sure about mounting this to a plastic canon lens?

+1

I would not be clamping any mattebox onto a Canon or Nikon (or other similar) SLR lens. They are just not up to the task. Better to mount the mattebox from rods or other mechanism (RED Gunner?).

Surprise!

hey J

any plans for a swing-away model? 6x6?

How about you grab an EPIC and turn it on 5K @120FPS and then drop one of these onto the cement floor from say 10 feet and post that footage?/

PRETTY PLEASE JARRED?

I would like to see it drop along with Mb5, and MB20 on either side. beautiful destruction. :)

Just wondering what kind of person would buy a $1200 mattebox and then try to mount it to a cheap plastic lens? :) Although I think some L lenses wouldn't have any problem with it ( 70-200mm 2.8 is etc) I even had a friend mount some cheap (but very heavy) mb on a 24-70 (maybe 24-105 I don't remember) without any problem. Although I don't think I would ever have the guts to try it (I baby my lenses).

So badass....... That is the exact setup I want... Carbon fiber is such an amazing material. I want one to just put on my shelf. When it's not being used of course:)

Cool handle too. Not sure I've seen that before? Is that the first time we've seen that Jarred?

Jarred...duuuuddeeee....that looks pretty badass :-)

Ok I am looking at my 5d mark 2 in a red rock cine bundle right now, I can no longer stand the sight of it...

I'm glad to be alive in a world where I can actually afford something as sexy as that camera. Thanks RED.

ha ha i love the guys that dish it but cant take it...

love even more the guys that point to anamorphic flares and praise how great streaky filters are, even though they are anamorphic flares and not streaky filters.

Anyways.. for the guys that are asking for more stages, we will make them, but you need to remember with a compact mattebox the more trays you put on the further away from the lens you get.. so you will start vignetting with a 3rd stage on this mattebox around 35mm. If you shoot above 35mm all the time.. no problem. But its something to be aware of.

Jarrad, I'm sorry for starting this... well maybe not... I just wanted 2 stages that rotate like the industry standard. For RED to come out with two fixed stages for NDs or soft FX makes no sense! - Polarizers need to be rotated and do not work in digital post... and for exposures of skies, I use ND GRAD filters at angles to offset the polarizer's uneven skies and expose for clouds and waves correctly that again will not work in digital post.

Nobody has asked for more stages or a flip out matte box, which by the way saves time on set (thousands of dollars) and why most super high end pro matteboxes like Arri and Pani do flip out?!

So to insult those who want pro features, makes no sense. RED is no longer pro-sumer. Yet most pro matteboxes rotate 1 or 2 stages and flip open.

I don't mean to be a troll, I want a pro matte boxes from Red that ROTATES at least one stage standard. Most filters except for NDs and Polas can all be done in post anyway... Sorry, but I wish this forum would take constructive criticism... being yes men does not help improve products... some of us, are risking ridicule to TRY TO help improve RED.

@ Greg
With a clip-on you could rotate the MB... :-)):001_tongue:

On the serious side:
Clip ons can be faster to work with than swing-aways, all depending on the rig and the AC or (gee... don't say that!) if you're alone.

No worries Greg.. I guess you missed the rotatable tray option.. 20 pages its easy to miss.
