  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED, Please Stop Shipping the Quad Redvolt Module...

Can I buy 12 of these 50% off Quad Modules and attach them sequentially for 48 REDVOLTS of continuous hot-swappable power!

I'll call it the CANON.

-Michael Zaletel

I think Julio's idea is valid. If RED had produced this product based on demand (as Brent suggests) I would have a quad battery module and not have to turn down rentals because I currently lack a battery option (which I require for some shoots). Lemo options are all back ordered (so I can't even find a V-mount solution) and side handles are backordered. I currently have an Epic that can only be powered via AC. So - I agree - let us have the option of a credit towards the Quad module - or if RED is already committed to production - ship it to me now - so I can actually rent my camera.

so, anyone seen these revolt XL batteries?

they fit side ways on the quad module? anyone seen a photo or mock up of this?

Here there are a couple of pictures with the XL and regular batteries.

NOTE: Sorry, I don't know who took the pictures. Just happen I had the pics in my computer. Gladly I will delete the photos if needed or ad the credits.....

Hey Brent, how bout putting that D-tap everyone wants inside the Module Adaptor? I am sure it is more complicated than that, but it would solve an existing issue...

As I mentioned, we sincerely listen to feedback and suggestions. No hidden meanings to read into this post, just saying we listen.

We are making these and shipping these daily. We are fulfilling based on order date so when your number is up, we will.

Dylan, want to buy mine?

I think this quite clearly illustrates the reason for Julio starting this thread. You don't want your module. Yet I am without one. I too am interested in V-mount options - but in their absence - would use the quad (which is part of my package - right?) but don't have it. Yet there are many people who have the modules who don't want them. Seems RED could kill two birds with one stone. no?

Dylan, please see my prior novel of a post in this thread. I don't know how to rephrase it differently.

Is is a matter of "wanting" at this point? Or, are these items were purchased as part of a bundle and we are fulfilling in order. Shall we add the wrinkle to our fulfillment process of taking a poll of who wants them know versus who does not therefore can wait? And then ship based on that?

It seems that the best thing to do for those who do not want the module might be this.

1. A sticky thread here where people can state they will not need the module.
2. Buyer contacts seller
3. Buyer purchases through pp or transfers directly to Sellers RED account.
4. Seller pays RED for module and has it shipped directly to buyer.

Red gets paid.
Buyer happy
seller happy
all that changes is the delivery slip.

That is how I might want to do it.
Would that be too big a hassle?
A sticky thread and a change in delivery address?

I was given the option to only pay for accessories that were not backordered when paying for my Stage 3, so I have not yet put the money up for my battery module. As soon as I am forced to pay for it, I'll have to try and sell it, as for me, this item is useless. It's big, clunky, does not last long enough (my operators are not going to switch out small batteries every thirty minutes) , has reduced functionality, and because the item was not available, I bought a v-mount solution that is smaller, more efficient and compatible with my bricks.

I would have no problem giving the funds to RED as outlined in my trade-in contract, it's just unfortunate that this item was part of the package instead of the ProIO module or additional media. Brent, we're not trying to 'con' the system here, we're just trying to save ourselves the extra time of buying and then selling this item which we have literally no practical use for. I really wish that I could save myself the trouble and just put the money toward something else in the RED store. If you are listening, please consider giving us this option… most of us here are honest, working professionals that just don't want to waste time and resources selling these things (time is money).

We're not trying to get out of paying the full amount of our stages. We just want to give you money for something (of equal cost!) that we will actually use. Thank you for responding thusfar and listening.

The simple fact of no D-tap or accessory power option turns a useful work horse into a kind of recalcitrant mule that balks at carrying a load.

If Red somehow came up with a design modification to correct this flaw, even if it cost us something, I think the unrest would turn into cheers. And the little nick to the gratitude of some, would be instantly healed.

Well stated!

I'm still not sure how useful the battery module will be in the long term but until the XL batteries and quad charger appear I think it is premature to condemn it for its present shortcomings. The present lack of options for power distribution of the Epic system is a problem that Red must be very aware of and I am confident that it will be addressed. My personal preference would be for its adoption into the Module Adapter. Or in exchange for the sidehandle a full I/O box with front and rear facing dc connectors and a few HD-SDI connectors to boot.

Here is a mock-up.

I guess my point is in the "fulfilling" part of the equation. My bundle is currently not fulfilled and I am losing out on a rental next week because of no valid battery operated option currently. So maybe I'm sidetracking this a bit. Although I fully appreciate the trade in offer - I am currently losing rentals due to an unfulfilled order. In hindsight - with Julio's idea - I'd have a quad module and be renting my camera - wheras others would not be putting them up for sale here. I guess this is more of a hindsight observation.

Don't f'n tease with that mockup...it has an I/O module!!!! Couldn't care less about yet another power option, would much prefer an I/O module with better industry interfaces and another Evf/LCD port...still cannot believe it that there is only one! Oh, and good long distant solid Redmote performance.

Dylan, I just went down to a local tech with the pin out and Leno specs, bought an $80 vlock plate and had it all wired up for $200. Put in on a universal rail mount and away I went...easy and cheap...love that combo:)

I hear folks saying they want to power accessories from the quad, and at the same time I'm reading comments that under the current load that battery life is insufficient. So how often do you expect to be changing batteries with your accessories added to the load? If you are wondering why there is no D-tap on the quad, look no further.

It may just be that folks who are asking for D-tap have not taken a full accounting of their power needs. In the absence of higher capacity Redvolts, it sounds like you simply need the bricks... Or more. Keep the quad for the times when it is useful or sell it, it's not as if you paid much for it considering the deal you got.

I have an idea!!

What if instead of a battery placed into one of the battery slots there could be inserted a power distribution "mini-module". With the same form factor as the RedVolt it could have a variety of connectors for dc power distribution for motors, monitors, recorders etc. Need D-Tap? Take 1 redvolt out and insert your 3 port D-tap mini-module. Need Hirose? Need 4-pin XLR? There is a mini-module for each.

Wouldn't it be cool if the battery module IS the I/O module and everything you might need (hd-sdi, EVF/LCD connector, audio, camera power, DC power distribution, wireless!!) is each a separate mini-module that can be tailored to the specific shoot.

Seriously one of the best suggestions I've ever heard on Reduser. This would be AMAZING!!!!!!! Red, can this be accomplished?

As cool as this setup above looks it's an absolute engineering nightmare. I can see RDC engineers jump off the roof-we wouldn't want that...
I would love to be wrong....

Never accused of anyone of conning. Well, at least in this thread :)

Sometimes it is just a matter of stepping back. Like Dylan's "they don't want it now but I do" scenario. Idea is great, but the logistics to pull something off like this on our end is a deal-breaker. Drew, I clearly understand the desire for people to not want the hassle of reselling something they agreed to purchase and now no longer want. But if you will re-read my earlier (and longer) post when it comes to what is the fair amount to credit a single part in a discounted bundle as well as our supply chain commitments, I think you will see the rubber-meets-the-road impact on our end.

Rest assured, I am tracking this thread and there have been a few nuggets I have taken away. And a few things you guys have asked for that have been in the works for awhile...
